Crazy Cam!

Just called Comp Cams and they suggested a wild cam for my engine combo. With Victor Jr. intake and heads, 11.0:1 compression, 393 cubic inches, and a 4,000 stall they suggested a solid roller 292/298 @.050 .621/.627 lift 110* cam. With my valve springs only going up to .670 lift with roller lifters I should be ok, but isnt that getting a little crazy? Im not exactly a fan of collapsing springs. If its not going to be an everyday driver do you think calling it that close on the springs would be ok? At most I'll drve it 1-2 days a week. Probably trailer to the strip. Just wondering what yall thought about that cam? Im gonna call around for some other options before I get dead set on 1 cam.

292/298 @ .050 is wrong, especially with only 621/627 lift. I'm betting that's advertised duration.

That cam's not too crazy.. and if your springs are rated to .670 I wouldn't have any worries about using them with any cam right up to .670" lift. The ratings are probably conservative on those springs, the last thing they want is a spring failing under its rated lift. That cam doesn't seem too radical at all to me, but I'm knowledgeable about Clevelands, I'm just starting to work on Windsors. I know several people with clevelands running cams in the .700 lift range. That cam is recommended for 3200-7200rpm, your manifold is rated for 3500-7500. Considering you've stroked the motor, that will bring that manifold's rating down a bit, as well as the cam. I think you'll make power between 3000-7000rpm. Should be a potent motor! I think that is a good cam choice if you want a solid roller(if you don't mind the maintainance).

The maintainance is the main reason I was wanting to go with hydro roller. But Comp and Crane both told me that I wouldnt be able to get a hydro roller cam big enough to make good use of that power range with my setup. So i guess once a year after each season when im checking or replacing rings and bearing i get to do the same to lifters now. Since mech lifters only way of oiling is crank splash. I'll be making alot of valve adjustments too though I guess.
