1988 Firebird won't start

I have a 1988 Firebird, was running great, drove it about 3 hrs one day went to start it later made a funny noise and wouldn't start. I have lights, radio, etc. Now it won't turn over at all and makes absolutely no noise when trying to start. Also, it won't jump start.

Do you have a key with a pellet in it? i had a similar problem once. Thought it was my starter solenoid, but it was not. The 2 small wires that go up through the steering column broke and the VATS module could not read my key anymore.
