hi i have a 91 eclipse 2.0L dohc non turbo automatic trans
my question is i read my computer codes and it gave me crank angle sensor is fualty. i want to know where is this sensor located and how do u test this sensor, and also how maney crank angle sensors are on my car.
Another question does anyone know about my transmission im trying to do a selonoid test(car is stuck in limp) and i need to know what color wire is what selonoid so i can make the car shift without using the cars computer (replaced twice with a rebuilt trans) on a km175 tranny so much help will be appreciated thanx guys

you dont have a crank angle sensor... its a Cam angle sensor, only 2g have crank angle sensors... although your cam angle sensor is located on the head, left side, on the end of the rear cam!

i don't think that 1G n/t has the CAS...

yes, the "crank angle" sensor is the same thing as the cam angle sensor in the 1g cars, in all honesty the car shouldn't be running if that sensor is faulty. Go back to the transmission shop and have them adjust your tranny. There are a few adjustment screws inside that they have to toy with to make it work right. My best friend has had this happen before.

so if the cam angle sensor is the same as the crank angle that means there is only one sensor right? But why does the chilton manual tell me that the crank angle sensor is somewhere near the timing belt.and how do u test the sensor??
the trans sensors were never adjusted my gf father is a transmission rebuilder and he built it at his house and i watched the whole thing.the selonoids might be bad i have to find out the wiring schematics of it tho does anyone know anything??? ive looked everywhere

oh yeah about the car not running this is the symptons. when the car is cold it acts fine when the car is fully warmed up and hot and about 10 minutes of driving the car starts to studder sometimes once sometimes a constant studder then it stops and the check engine light goes on.then when i stop it may stall and does not start back up for 15-20 minutes then it starts all over again. the error code is 23 camshaft angle sensor how do u test this thing?????
sorry i think the chilton manuel has a typo becuz i was on a ecu code webpage and in the chilton it says for 22 and 23 crank angle sensor but on this wepage it says 22 crank angle and 23 camshaft angle sensor so how do u test the camshaft?????????

I wouldn't replace the sensor just because the CEL for it came on. I'd have someone look at it because it can be a number of other things to send a code.

On a 1g the CAS serves both functions. There are 4 wires to it. Power, ground, Cam angle signal, and Crank angle signal. Since the cam and crank are mechanically linked by the tbelt, you can extraplate crank position from cam position. On a 2g, the cam sensor is behind the intake cam gear on 95-96, and in the 1g location on the pass side of the head for 97-99. The crank sensr is keyed off the seperator plate betwen the main tbelt and front bshaft belt on the main crank sprocket. 1g NT and turbo supposdly share the same oil pump cover, so I wouldhave to assume it uses the 1g turbo style cam/crank sensor combination, in one unit.
Check to make sure the plug is attached properly. In my experience the thing either works or it doesnt. The only time it half works is when the sensor plug is loose. To test it remove the sensor from the head, turn the key to the on position, and turn the tab that does itno the slot in cam by hand. You will hear the injectors firing and the fuel pump coming on. If it bad you wont hear these things. IF there is some bizzare intermittent problem, this test wont help. IF the sensor fails this test the car wont run. Which brings me back to the point about the loose connector. :) Odds are this wont be a simple fix, but you never know.
CAS has to be bought at the dealer, not at the autoparts store. They arent cheap new, but the going rate for usd ones is 50 bucks. ITs a common swap for 2g guys, so you do occassionally see them for sale on the forums/trader.
