automatic faster than a manual

Ok i want the truth. My friend has a 93 rx7 twinturbo stock. he claims that his automatic is faster than a 5 speed. is this ture and if so how is it possible. i have always thought that 5 speeds were faster. please clear this up for me thanks.

in 1/4 mile 5spd is faster as long as the guy in the 5spd is atleast a decent driver... in an autox the 5spd would also be faster because you have more control of the power band... hope this helps

an automatic in a rx-7 is horriable mainly since the motor likes to be rev'ed to the redline so much. Automatics also take up more power to run so that equals less horsepower at the wheels.

i went to a car dealership and looked at a C5 vette, it was automatic though. the dealer described it in a very interesting, yet fitting way. he said having an automatic in a car like that "is like kissing your sister". since corvettes and 3rd gen rx-7s are in the same autocross class, i'd say the same applies. automatic is only faster with turbos on a drag, becuase the throttle stays open, keeping the turbos spooled. however, anywhere else, they'll be slower. please correct me if i'm wrong.

automatics are good for bracket racing. That's about it.
