the devil eh? allow me to shed some light on this horrible case of ignorance.

wicca (more commonly called witch-craft) is a life affirming, positive religion that bases itself around the native religions of the celts and vikings. they worship "the goddess" which is a representation of mother earth (in a nutshell). They believe the cycle of the seasons respresent the cycles of life.

yes, ok, they practice "magic" which is sometimes pretty potent. but no more, say, than some serious prayer. the little old lady on her knees, counting rosary in front of the virgin mary is apretty powerful force to be reconed with. think of their magic as prayer with props like incense and such.

Im not wiccan, but this is what i picked up doing a little research a few years ago for a school project, and my aunt is wiccan, so i do have a bit of knowledge on the subject.

i can suggest some good books on the topic if you would like.

you didnt give an oppinion, you gave a false statement. Witch craft is not devil worship. The offical wiccan stance on the devil: "he's the judeo/christians creation, they can keep him." I have never known a wiccan to commit any act of violence or ill will towards anyone else or any living being for that matter.

In fact, they are some of the nicest, more accepting people ive ever met.

so perhaps we should shake off the blind acceptance of our preacher/priest/rabbi's word on things and actually look into them for ourselves

The whole idea of witches, werewolves and what have you are created from moldy old rye bread. Back in the day in colonial america the frame of mind was extremely religious and reserved. The bread people would eat was usually rye bread, and when rye seeds mold they can become as halucinagenic as LSD. This was the cause of the Salem Witch Trials when a number of young girls were accusing each other of witchcraft.

I know that in high school all the witch craft kids wore all black and played Magic: The Gathering or whatever that thing is called. One kid carried a sack around his neck with sand or something in it. And he claimed he would curse some of us if we didn't stop messing with him.

If you're talking about charmed, I'm knocking 100 reputation points off you :p

Tex: Those weren't witch craft kids, they were try hard goth wannabes.

I'm a Christian and a really good friend of mine is wiccan. I don't have a problem with that, I don't get a feeling that she is worshipping satan or anything like that. It's just like my hindu friend or my jewish friend..sure I don't believe the same thing but I don't get the feeling that they are bad people.

Oh ok. I guess we thought wrong then. The kid kept saying he was into witchcraft though. Anyway, my mistake.

yeah i follow you on the Wicca religion.. i've looked into it before. i know they're probably good people and everything. In no way did I say they were violent people. My opinion, is that the worship is pointed in the wrong direction. They don't see it as "the devil" or "evil", but from my point of view it is.

Just because a religion says its "right", doesnt neccesarily make it rock solid truth... according to Wicca religion, my statement was false, but is it false to an open mind?

yes, dirtydx, it is.

your christian (im assuming here) and the devil, he's a pretty bad guy right. trys to trick people to into not believing in god, or in straying from the teachings of god right?

well, the wiccans, they teach acceptance of all views. they teach non violence and "turning the other cheek" they teach love for all of their goddess's creations. they teach the helping of other people, no matter their back ground.

sound like any other religious figure we know (i'll give you hint, starts with a C, ends with a HRIST)

EDIT: oh, and tex, your not the one that was mistaken, they were. because of the reputation of Witch craft, they mistakenly believed that what they were doing was in effect Wicca. kinda like saying the crusades were Christ's idea. No devote Wiccan would ever threaten to curse you, they would instead ignore you and just smile when karma came around and bit you in the ass :D

i don't think you understand the point i'm trying to make...

...and I said to use an open mind, not the beliefs of others. Surprise! humans invented Wicca too.

FURTHERMORE, I'm not saying my religion has a bigger dick than your religion. Nor am I surgically attatched to any religion. I take my own experiences more serious, following with bits and pieces from religion that I agree with. It's a mystery begging to be tinkered with.

Although the intentions of Pagan's are good, I think it's still aimed at the negative aspect that hides within our universe. :2cents:

keyword, "OPINION".

wicca is alright, all the earth power and energy and stuff.

however, Hollywood and goth kids give witchcraft a bad stereotype

not being affiliated with any religion, and finding the concept ridiculous in of itself, i think i can objectively approach this problem buddy.

im using an open mind to compare the beliefs of what im assuming you religion is to the beliefs of another religion. pretty objective and "open-minded" approach isnt it?

and you oppinion is being stated as a fact

oppinion: "i dont like wicca"

stated fact: "wiccans are aimed at evil"

so you think they are. good for you. can i ask you to provide evidence as to why you think so?

Wicca is as relevant as any other religion in that it has positive participation benefits for those who partake in it. However, I am highly amused at the reaction of many Christians who feel deeply threatened by a non Judeo Christian belief structure and work so hard to discredit it (devil worship et. al.) Anything that shakes up the dogmatic Christian world is a good thing.

Now, does anyone believe in the Greek or Roman gods?? IMHO they are as irrelevant as Moses, Jesus or Mohammed.
Mount Olympus, anyone??
