Everytime me and one of my friends race its always close but everytime at the top of 2nd gear or the start of 3rd gear he starts to slowly to pull on me. Does anyone know why this is? Could it be because I have a 4spd auto and he has a 5spd auto. Any ideas are appreciated.

your 2-3 shift may need some work try and practice speed shifting at different rpms and see what works best and i be t you can handle him

First off almost all automatics sap more power then sticks. I can guarantee he has more power at the wheels then you. Secondly your stock torque converter probably sucks. A torque converter and a shift kit would help you alot (Shift kits are dirt cheap: $80-100).

The cars are a 4spd V6 Mustang, 4spd V6 Monte Carlo SS, and 5spd V6 Volvo S80. Me and mustang##### have the same problem, everytime we hit 3rd he pulls hard.
Could it be he is at the top of 3rd right as we are at the bottom of 3rd? Or...something like that...?

Reply the volvo has at least 194 horsepower and 205 ft of torque and weighs 3,500 pounds.
Your mustang is aobut the same with more torque(228) and you wiegh about 500 pounds less. So i think the answer lies in his 5 speed auto compared to your 4. I think when your topping out in 2nd his already hitting his best power range in 3rd and thus pulling on you right there and all through 3rd to 4th. Thats what i think.

There are no 5-speed V6 Volvo S80s. There a 5-speed normally aspirated I6, 5-speed light-pressure turbo I5 (with AWD), and a 4-speed twin turbo I6 (which in stock form can hit 60 in about 6.1 seconds give or take two tenths depending on a LOT of factors for that car.)
