Hey guys stupid question here. How do I remove the shifter nob, its just the round one with the button on the top. The ever wise people at Autozone told me to take out the set screw on the front of it (even after I told them it didnt have one... LOL) I've also tried twisting but that gets old after about 5 minutes and nothing happens. Any ideas that wont harm my car (i.e. sledging it...lol)?

Umm well it's kinda tricky. There's a seam that goes from the front to the back. You have to figure out how to get it over the lip in the front and the seam apart.

IF you can twist it, but it won;t come off, i would say that the threads are stripped. What year are we talking about?? I took mine off the other day, it is a black knob with like a 1/2" threaded hole going into it.

Its an 82 Z28, it has the round leather nob on it that is about 2-3 inches in diamiter. If you look at if from below it, it seems to have a white insert between the actuall ball and the shaft of the shifter.

you have to slide the ball down, and there will be a c clip you have to undo

Yes its on a 3rd generation 82 Z28. Its the regular round shiternob that came on them, the leather cover has came of but the rest is still there. I was wanting to put one of those carbon fiber aftermarket ones on that you can get at autozone.
