Ok so tonight I went to the track for the first time with some of my friends. My times were embrassing but it was good fun cause me and one of my friends always had close races everytime we raced. The only thing I have to brag about is one of my reaction times out 6 of my runs it was a .053. I would say thats not bad for my first time at the track.

funny that the drag racing talk is being done in the street racing forum, not the drag racing forum?

What type of Mustang do you own author? I'd say juding from the mph it is a V6. Those times aren't that bad for your first time at the track. One trick I learned with the staging lights is to go on the 3rd yellow light. My best is .563 reaction time. Keeping things consistant is the key. I applaud you for posting your times. People will always rag on your 60' time (Trust me I was ripped on continuosly for a 2.3 sec. 60'). Then again I saw alot of people at the track that I could outdrive. I think most people post BS times on the internet. BTW every tenth taken off your 60' is good for 2 tenths in the 1/4 mile. My best 60' so far is 1.9 sec. with my EVO.

1997 V6 stang auto and I always seemed to jump my friend off the line cause I would go on the third light. Thanks for the advice 2000LS1Z28.

man that is excellent. Anything in the .5s is good for just a foot break, but that is awesome even for our class (bracket 1-delay boxes and trans break allowed).
And if you start bracket racing, that will def. win you more races then you can imagine. You kill the tree that bad and you'll either run down the car your racing fast and can let up to keep from breaking out, OR be so far in front of the car that is spotting you that they will break out catching you.

yea I can usually get most faster cars out of the hole then the car over performs the driver. I just need better tires!

The better you can hook up the better your reaction time, that is a fact. With reaction times like you get, man I would def. bracket race. Does your car run pretty consistent?? (shoot, even if it didnt with reaction times like that, it would'nt have to!)

besides friday night i can run it very consistant *put on a friends rear tires from his car they had like no wear so they werent broken in and they spun off the line like crazy, we have the same rim's so it didnt look any different*
like my time's will vary only maybe 1 tenth of a second if that in the 1/4, 60's were always 2.1 or a low 2.2 on the factory tires and my r/t are always decent, but i just dont feel my car is quite fast enough to bracket race yet

well you dont have to be fast to bracket race. bracket racing is set up on a handy cap system. Technically, you don't even race the other car, you race your time and your reaction time. Because in bracket racing, its not who gets to the line first, its who runs the closest to there dial in and gets the best reaction time. For ex: saturday night at our local track (330 ft.), we dialed our car 4.30. Our reaction time was .511 and the car ran 4.300, so that means we were .011 seconds from a perfect run (that doesn't happen much). The guy we raced was dialed a 4.93, he redlighted (rt: .483) and ran a 4.942, so even if he woudl have gotten a perfect light, we woudl have been .001 seconds closer to a perfect run then he was. Now you may done and know this and this may be boring for you, but i'm just saying it doesn't matter if your car runs 10.0s or 15.0s in bracket racing (now there are classes, like in our class, bracket 1, the cut off time is 5.49 in 330 ft. The fastest car at our track is a rail, it ran a 3.691 against us saturday night to our 4.278. We redlightd so we automatically lost)

His .505 reaction came from a base .500 tree, where yours sounds like it is from a base .000
so if his reaction was at your track, it would be .005 and if yours was at his, it would be .680, which isn't bad for a foot break.

Same as JeffGTP, your reaction came from a different time base tree. The .505 reaction came from a .500 base tree (.500 would be a perfect reaction time). So if the .505 reaction came from a .000 time base tree, then it would read .005.
.505 on a .000 base tree would be horrible, and a .053 on a .500 base tree would be a terrible red light! lol

ive come closer to a perfect light but it was a redlight it was a .498 but since it was infact a redlight it doesent really matter, i think ill hit a perfect light before im 19 ive come really close, and i goto the track every weekend, ill keep my times posted

No big deal. I'm so used to a .500 base tree that it takes me a minute to realize that .053 is the same as a .553, lol.
civicHBsi91, good luck on the .500 reaction time. Its possible off a footbreak, I've seen it, but VERY rare! Keep your times posted. I've been posting our times from our local track too (under the 330 times thread). And they are for the car, not the truck, lol.

Lol. Yeah, that's the reason I put a picture of the car, lol. 1.9 60' would be very good for a street car. Your pretty close, the bfgs would help more then the headers IMO, but the headers will still help. If you could launch your car at a little higher rpm, that might get ya there too (also might cause ya to spin, OR might maek your car fall on its face).

oh im deff. getting the tires before a header but a header is just on my list of to do things
i launch at 2k at the track anymore it just spins to all hell or it wheel hops all through 1st, it's not cool when 3 dollars in change comes flying at you when you before you get to 2nd gear

Lol, I'd say not. We just launch that car at 3600 rpms, anything higher and you can't keep it on the ground.

It does more bad then good! Its cool to watch, but thats it, lol. IT used to come up ridiculasly high! About 2 years ago, before the 4-link, and when we were launching it at 4000 rpms, it came up, hit the wheelie bars, HARD, kept coming up, started towards the guard rail, and he (my uncle drives) ahd to get out of it and when he let up, it was so high that when it came down it hit the cross member. 1000 wonders that it didnt tear somethign all to hell, I mean well you know how high a cross member is off the ground. And it hit HARD, sparks came out for a godo 6-8 ft. i bet.

Lol, yeah thats part of the reason why we got big snow tires on the front!! (seriously, they are M+S rated!!!) Put a set of the skinny drag tires it probalby woudl pick up half a tenth!
