Does anyone know if there is a way to check the timing chain on a 99 or newer silverado, Im kinda on a last ditch guessing effor to fix my truck. One reason Im asking is I have backfiring along with if I give it alot of gas it lags in and out and will rev up to 5500 rpm before shifting to 2nd.

not without disassembling the engine as far as I know.

You may want to remove the distibutor and look closely at the teeth..
I have had a couple with the teeth worn causing what you are describing

Hey Bill

I had a hesitation problem as well, seems like its fixed know, what my mechanic did was clean the the throttle body throughly, put di-electric grease on the electric connectors of the fuel injectors , he said there was a bulletin on that chevy that said that some fuel injector problems where caused becase of corrosion. Also he put a new mass air flow sensor, it wasnt really bad but the reading it was giveing was not a stock specifications so just so everything could be like it once was, he replaced it. So far its been good, clean throttle response, didnt notice but throttle response before was a little rough compared to it know. Ive been hamerring it and still know hesitation, feel alot tighter though, at 60 mph when i floor it tugs. Anyways just to let you know my truck has 84,000 miles, 5.3 V8. Also i posted a a thread before that i though i fixed with cahing some spark plugs, apparantly that didnt work, but for know its good. Good luck, know its time to get out of here , laker game on soon.............

I finally decided to take mine to a different chevy dealer in a different city. they had for 5-6 hours and found that my (Mass Air Flow Sensor) was very dirty! but they only charged me $82, I am very impressed and would recommend them since the dealer in my city told me over $1000 to fix it. Im totally happy for what I paid for- I can burnout again but not like it did when I first got it but Im happy, it doesnt backfire or hesitate at all.
