I have a dilemma.
Ive been looking at a red 2 door gl with a 2.4($5495), and a silver 4 door with a 3.4($6496). both autos. The coupe has 72k miles and the other has 62k. This is really a toss up for me cause I never ever wanted to buy a 4 door car in my life, but after i bought my z24 4 years ago with a 2.8 i told myslef I would never by a 4 cylinder again. I was wondering what you guys would do.
They are both 99s by the way. I have nopt driven either of them yet so I cant compare them power wise. I had my heart set on searching for the perfect GLS this fall and spendigg 10 or 11l but its looking like the funds wont be as plentiful as I had hoped

Definately the 3.4.
#1: The 3.4 has less miles.
#2: " " has more power
#3: Only 1K more for 2 more doors and two more cylinders...oh and about 35 more HP.
#4: With four doors, you save your front seats...PERIOD. They take a beating in any two door car, wheather you have people in the back all the time or just occasionally.
In reality the 2.4 may last a bit longer than the 3.4 or give you less problems, but it's worth it in the long run to get the 3.4 V6. Just make sure you research them both well. Make sure the intake manifold gasket has been replaced in the 3.4. Also check coolant condition as the vehicle is at 5 yrs. (supposed to be changed at 5 yrs.). Inspect the serp. belt and pulley as well. I have heard that the pullies can wear prematurely. There is a wear line on the pulley that you can check.

P.S. - Get that 3.4!!!

BTW, before I made my purchase of my 2002 Alero GL1 V6 I test drove both a two and four door 2.2 Ecotec and an four door 2.4 Quad. The quad, IMHO, flat out sucked. It was grainy and as loud as the V6. The MPG would have only been a little better. As for the Ecotec, it was good at highway, but I didn't like it in the city, which is mostly what I drive. It's a peppy engine, but there's ot enough pep to pull the heavy 4 door Alero. In the city, the Ecotec spits out the same MPG as the V6...19 MPG

thanks for the reply, i was leaning toward the v6. My friend has a grand am gt with the 3.4 and that thing moves just as good as my 2.8. The dealer was closed when i was there today but the more I look at the 4 door the better it looks

I have to say the 3.4! I agree with JTrujillo86! I ended up buying the 4 door alero with the 3,4 also! If you get more than 2 peps in a car with the 4 your not going anywhere fast! I also swore never to buy a four again and haven't to this day. Even with the intake gasket deal I haven't regreted it yet!

Oh yeah lots of times insurance should be alittle cheaper on the four door!
