What the hell is a Mercury Capri

ok i was talking about turbo cars, and this kid walks up and says " i used to have a turbo mercuy capri"
Me: "really?"
"yeah, it was awesome"
"where is it"
"oh it just rusted out one day" :screwy:
"ok..."
"yeah but that thing was fast"
"i bet...so what kind of boost tank did you have?" (trying to get him to say something incredibly stupid)
"oh i dont know"
"right, and how many psi were you pushing?"
"oh about 200."

Obviously, the kid didn't know anything about it.
But the Mercury Capri did exist in the early eighties, it was basically the same thing as a Mustang.

Well, the FF convertible Capri from 1990-1995 had a turbo version that pushed out a whopping 138bhp from a 1.6L DOHC four. My mom owns the NA version with 105bhp, with automatic transmission no less.

Such an awe-inspiring performance car. :banghead:

not sure how they went from almost looking like a stang to that, quite disturbing if you ask me.

its very very sad to look at it realize, the capri was a rebadged mustang.... then turned into that POS convertible with a tiny ass engine....... how humiliating for a powerful car to lose its nuts like that....

the turbo capri, wasnt that the same as the SVO... just rebadged?

I noe the capri.1973 capri in AUS was a 400Hp V6 and that was then.I want a Ford Capri with a 302ci and vortech supercharger.Run an easy 11.00.Great car ,fast and lite.

No, the Turbo Capri was not the same as the SVO Mustang. There was a standard Turbo Mustang (sold as several different models inculding a GT350)in the lineup that was essentially the same thing as the Turbo Capri. The SVO was a much more powerful car with far better suspension and improved styling.

The Capri name was best used on the 70's European Capri's IMHO. A great car that really was the "European Mustang" Ford intended it to be. Ford brought it to America, but screwed it up as badly as it did the American version of the Ford Sierra (merkur XR4ti to us yanks) in the 80's.

Hey Ford....how about the next you bring over a great Ford from Europe you don't screw up everything that made it great in the first place?
