~what is the best way to go to add horsepower to a 1991 Honda Accord EX? as it stands right now i'm getting a cold air intake and cat back system. after this is done which would be the best way to give some horsepower. not looking for ungodly amounts , just enough to give it a kick.

~thanks in advanced.

~i'm not sure what the bhp is for the car but i am assuming to add about 30-40 hp for now. this being after the cai, and exhaust. as far as the budget goes thats up in the air right now. the labor i can do as i have a shop to work in.

~on a side note. this is my buddies car. i'm not terribly familiar with the honda accord ie why i'm here. :)

the biggest gain would be intake and exhaust, headers, any other bolt on would add very little horsepower.

suggest you make your own Hyper ground wire kit.

H22 swap, that's a start.

40hp is a little more than a kick. if you want that kind of power from your engine and you dont want to spend alot... youre gonna have to squeeze.

I'm looking to do much the same thing, on a similar budget except I have an '02 Accord LX. So what you guys are saying is that other than CAI, Header and Exhaust theres nothing you can really do thats gonna add any real power without spending a boatload of money? Any suggestions on which header or exhaust system I should go with? Looking for something thats pretty quiet but doesn't sacrifice any performance as far as exhaust goes and as for header...4-2-1 or 4-1 and what brand? Not looking to go FI ever, not really looking to spend a lot of money, really just want to make the daily driver more fun to drive.

These are all good things to do, but you really aren't going to gain that much hp. It WILL sound cool but the actual gains are not going to be that major. But I would reccomend the Apexi World Sport exhaust system. I love the sound, it's not overbearing, a great daily driver system.

well, with intake, exhaust and header how much of a gain can i expect? and does a hyper ground wire kit really make a difference?

intake exhaust and header *might* give you 15 - 20 hp if ur lucky. i'd say save up and go turbo, but hey that's just me. i/h/e ends up kinda expensive anyways, could prolly shop around and get a very basic turbo (ie no intercooler and run real low boost) for the price of those bolt ons if you were planning on going with all name brands.

Do the intake manifold swap like I did, bolt on an intake mani and get an ECU from a 92-93 EX, it has dual runners, once you hit 4800 RPM the second set opens up, gives you more high end power. Pretty cheap, all you gotta do is find one.
