integra gs-r vs maxima

Pretty self explanatory. 3g gs-r (1994 on) and the 1995 on maximas. Straight line performance means more to me, ut I care about handling too. I do plan on modifying it. Oppinions?

I owned an Integra, and as much as I liked it, I think the Maxima would be faster straight acceleration.

the maxima is a pretty cool car, but it is a 4-door. integra's are also a pretty good car so i say go with the gs-r.

i say go with maxima! my friend has like a 98, with a VQ30DE, only has a cone air filter, pulley...and i think that it, his best time at the track is 14.6 with all interior. its a 5-speed. those cars can really get fast! its also very nice. if you want to have something of a sleeper, go with a maxima. you can fit alot of gurls in there 2. or do what everyone else does and dont impress anyone...get a Honda(acura)

in june 1994 when the 95 maxima debuted Motor Trend gave it this review:
Motor Trend, Road Test, June 1994
"Our tester, a five-speed SE version of this fourth generation of Maxima, produced a blazing 6.6-second 0-60-mph time, and a 15.2-second, 92.4-mph quarter-mile run. Ask us,
and we'll tell you how the Maxima SE will whip the Integra GS-R, and Taurus SHO;
the new Maxima also shows no mercy on its Nissan stablemates: It'll stomp the normally aspirated 300ZX, and drivers of automatic-transmissioned 300ZX Turbos best not be snoozing when the light goes green.
This demure-looking family car is the quickest Japanese sedan available in the States."
i had a 95 before my 02 and i would whoop my friends 98 gsr when i was stock, it was a four door though. when i got my intake y pipe and catback, that thing was fast and was a pretty awesome sleeper.

You ain't lying. It's the ultimate sleeper since on the outside, the untrained eye would never tell that it is a fast car.

The VQ is a hell of an engine to be in a family sedan. It still excites me when I floor it. Why own an Integra when you can beat one?
Make sure the '95 is a 5-speed. And what options do you want(i.e. leather, BOSE?)

Um, that's garbage, the Civic Si isn't as fast as the Maxima, I don't know the numbers, but I've seen them both race first hand.

Well, depends on the Maxima. If it's a 3rd gen GXE (160HP, auto), it could be possible.
The guy did mention that it was auto. And between the auto and the 5spd Maxi, there's a world of difference as far as performance goes.

Also note that this is a US spec maxima you guys are talking about.
97% of the worlds population for a much larger and heavier version of the Maxima, the true maxima as it were (the US spec car appears to be a Bluebird wearing differnt feathers) and its much much slower. The fastest one makes 0-60mph in about 8secs on a good day. Its a proper mid size car, and competes with the V6 Honda Accord and Toyota Camry/Aristo/Avalon etc etc.
That said while the US spec Maxima might be fast, if your looking for a fast 1/4 mile race car that also goes around corners, and you want to modify it, the Integra will be the better car.
Its lighter, and it uses a much better suspension deisgn, it will ALWAYS out handle the Maxima, by a lot. People can argue otherwise all they like, but the laws of physics will always win, and they are playing strongly in favour of the Integra here.
Its lighter weight will also mean its more reponse to even small increases in hp, and of course since your modding any small speed differnce it may now have against the Maxima becomes irrelevant. Also note that one of the reasons the US spec Maxima is so fast 0-60 is because of some very short gear ratios, get both cars above 40mph and any differnces will become meaningless.
And of course the huge amount of aftermarket suppurt for the Integra gives you any number of roots to take when it comes to modifiing it.

i've driven both 5 speed and automatic maximas. if the maxima was an auto, then any decent 5 speed 4 banger can take it. but if the maxima was a 5 speed, they are high 14 second cars stock if its in GXE trim ( base model) i have friends with v-tec prelude who would think twice about racing a stick maximas becsaue they are pretty damn quick cars. but if its auto, i'm sorry to say but auto maximas are slow.

i have a frind with a rd gen maxima. he can outrun any civic in auto-x. he did all his custom stuff for suspension. its a 5-speed. runs mid 14's in 1/4 mile. cant mess with maximas

regular civic he can kill them , but not Civic SI , SI got power and light weight
phlygirl1437

I disagree. Based on a power-to-weight ratio, the Maxima has the advantage. But of course, many other factors come into play.
1996 Maxima SE 5spd- 190HP, 3025lbs. 1HP:15.92lbs.
2000 Civic Si 5spd- 160HP, 2612lbs. 1HP:16.33lbs.
It is just a slight advantage, but with superior torque ratings going to the Maxima, I think the Maxima has the advantage. Kinda depends on gear ratios, though. If the Max is an auto, then yeah, the Si could kill it most definitely. For those years anyway.

maximas are great cars and i'm a big fan of them but compared to the gsr, they're boats. long wheelbase, softer suspension and overall size make it not nearly as fun to drive. as a purely driver's car, i prefer the tighter, more agile feeling of the gsr. and it's really hard to say which i'd prefer as they're both different kinds of cars. the maxima certainly has its advantages over the gsr, everything except that fun-to-drive factor, which in this comparo, the gsr wins easily IMO.
we're comparing a sport compact 2 door hatchback to a mid-size near luxury family sedan. i'll give the gsr the nod in auto-x, but i'll give the maxima the win on the dragstrip.

The Integra body and suspension is definitely more of a driver's setup than the Maxima's, but I still think the Maxima edges out the Integra in the power and speed department. But either way, I loved my Acura Integra, it was a great and fun car to drive.

3rd at 50?!?! that seems like a high gear to be in when you are racing at 50. my bros car (also a 4-cylinder) can almost reach 50 in 1st gear. but i don't know how the gsr's are geared, but it still seems high.

i dunno about you, but a maxima can catch 45mph in 1st gear, i think thats holding it pretty good. lets see a GS-R do that.
and yes chick dig toyotas, but they aint shit for a ugly nissan at a track. :smokin:

I dont even drive a GS-R. I actually like integras, and dont like sentras or maximas. The GSR looks ten times better than the maxima. The maxima is for a family dad who wants some power. The only nissan ive ever thought id lose to is the 300. But even thats a close race.

I would love to see you meet up with a 2002 or 2003 6-speed Maxima. You would get your butt handed to you. That Maxima can take any 300ZX except for the manual twin-turbo. And even that would be a close race.
