Turbo engine management

Does anybody know any good engine management systems for a turbo car on an OBD-II. I know Hondata will only work on OBD-I and the swap i asume is a pain. I think the A'pexi will also only work on OBD-I. Does the GReddy E-manage, cuz my cousin has it on his IS300. Im not too fond of GReddy though. If anyone has any ideas on what to do, or explanation of the swap thatd be great cuz i like the hondata.

The obd2 to obd1 conversion is not that complicated. There are aftermarket conversion harnesses that you can buy that allows you to basically plug your obd2 harness into a obd1 ecu. I would do with the hondata for best feature for the price. The emanage is a glorified Apexi AFC.

What bad things have you heard about Hondata? I have never heard one bad thing about it.

None in general, heard from 2 people that bought them and sold them like a month later and got the EMS. I was looking into a hondata but was steered away from it. How much does it cost by the way?

It costs about $400ish for the s200 with boost option.
Hearing from 2 people who bought it and then sold it a month later does not reflect the products quality, there might have been more reasons behind them selling it. But like I said I have never heard one bad thing about hondata, and i know alot of people here in GA that are running it, and are as happy as they can be. ;)

I also have never heard of any problems with hondata. That is what I plan on running in my racecar when I finish it. The AEM EMS is by far one of the best stand-alones I have ever seen and is worth the price. The downfalls to it are that it is not very user friendly and competent AEM tuners are hard to come by.

deffinatley go with the hondata, your dealer should be able to set up with a full system w/ injectors and tuned for just under $1000 to $1500 depending on just what options you wanted and still get the options that you need for the lower price. They are a breeze to tune also and support a pretty effective autotune function used in conjunction with a wideband system, your dealer should also have one of those. check out hondata's website
www.hondata.com and look into the s200 section.

They are both good, but he would still have to purchase injectors and get it tuned. What I listed included everything and labor for the install, set up, and tune.
Everyone has a prefference and a different experience, like said before, they are both good systems, bottom line is you can get more for less with the hondata way. If you do have the extra time and money to invest into an AEM system go for it! The AEM does have a better autotune function and can yeild more options in the end but for any normal person that has hp goals up to 500-600hp atw the hondata is gold!

The AEM does have a better autotune function
Don't mistake the AEM's auto fuel correction for automated tuning, we don't want anyone to get it in their head that if they plug the AEM in and go their car will run like gravy. Basically what you do is get a solid tune going, then you set a target AFR for cells in the AEM, make a pass through those cells, and then the AEM will adjust the fuel trim till the AFR is spot on to perfectly smooth out the car.

Yea, boosted331, I guess I should have made that alittle clearer. Good post. The Hondata system works in the same way, it works well for partial tuning, after you do a "autotune" pass, you "interpolate" the section you just tuned to smooth out the peaks and dips and then set that as the "new base". I would recomend doing all of the WOT tuning manually. I just feel better about my own active corrections than I do about the computer doing them for me.
Does the AEM autotune function work will for WOT tuning? Have not had any experience with that function on the AEM..

Yep, the AEM functions for anything. You numerically plug in whatever AFR you want in a table that breaks down load vs. RPM's, then as long as you have the function turned on it will smooth everything out.

Probably gonna order an S200 on monday, getting a pretty good deal on it,
$275 s200
180 boost upgrade
150 harness
150 p28 ecu chipped & base program installed
-----------
$755 shipped
Datalog and Romeditor Upgrades are $180 ea.
G-Sensor is $230
3-Step is $115
Anybody guess on how much HP i will get out of this tuned ECU?

Id say a good 10, but thats just a guess. Probably a better running car and longer life. How hard was it to do the OBD-II to I conversion, is just a plug and play?

With a good tune, atleast 35 WHP at peak, a ton of midrange, as well as a much smoother transition from vacuum to boost. If you got bigger injectors you could go even higher.
