I just picked me up an 88 Z28 for $250.00 on monday. I even drove it home........ :-) It has the 305 in it, auto/od, had the smaller highrise wing on it, a/c that works and the body isnt in to bad of shape (a couple dings on the drivers side and what looks to be a couple hammer dings in the roof). I got it for a parts car for my 82, now the bad news the drivers side floor panel is bad and it smokes for about 2-5 minutes after you start it, but everytime I start it the smoke seems to easy abit (not smoking like it did the day I drove it home). The engine really seems to be strong so I'm thinking of getting the valve seals replaced to see if that stops the smoke. This thing had 245/60/14's (which are now on my 82) on it and I could light them fat things up with easy (I actually had it spin me sideways and almost hit my 82...lol) even with the engine smoking the way it does. But heres my problem, I'm trying to fix up my 82 since it has the 350 all hypo'ed out in it but I dont know if I should strip what i want and sell it, if I should part it out, or if I should fix it and have 2 Camaros.... What do you guys think?

You put a little of TLC in the car you bought and sell it!! Make some profit. Put your profit back into the orginal car. You are in a sweet deal.

it's got 14 inch rims or is that a typo?
i'd swap everything over to the 88, it should be or was fuel injected. isn't a Z28 a tuned port? or swap ur 350 into the Z.
have to see some pics to make a judgement tho

I'll try to get some pics tomorrow or sunday its raining 2day so I cant. Nope its not a typo I said 14's I was supprized myself but once u see the pics you'll see what I mean. They tires are 245/60/r14's on the old style mag rims which really give it one hell of a mean stance, atleast i think so anyway...lol. The 82 is a Z28 also and all the puter stuff has been taken care of since the 350 is now carbarated, but the 88 is a fuel injected 305 (not the tunned port) and I'm not sure if I want to go through all that again.

i dont really like to tall spoiler on the 91 and 92's either, i like the 88's short spoiler, and the 89 and 90 molding spoiler.
and tardster, your 82 was fuel injected? didn't think they had fuel injection that early

You could try some of that motor honey form walmart or another store. It is extremely thick and takes about 45 minutes to drain a bottle into your engine, but I hear it does wonders if your car is smoking.

i use that stuff as engine lube on new bearings.lol
just go to the parts store and get new seals. probly do both heads for around $20. rent a spring compressor kit with the pneumatic fitting for holding the valves shut and you can do the seals without pulling the heads

maybe i'm understanding it wrong but i think he's saying the 82 was fuel injected and now it's carbureted. i dunno

Yes the 82 had the TBI or whatever kinda computer controlled carb on it and now its got a Edlebrock 1406 (600 single feed I think). The 88 has the TBI on it aswell thats the reason I'm not to sure about putting my 350 from the 82 in the 88. Like I said I'll try to get some picts tomorrow 4 you guys.

an 82-84 come with the cross fire injection or 4
barrel carb, 85-86 electronic carb/distributor,
"rochester quadrajet" maybe 87 also
tuned port injection was availiable on the 85-92 iroc
just the 305 version. the corvette had the rights
to the 350 version, 88-90 tuned port 350's are
being put in the iroc's, and also 88-92 the throttle
body was also used on the some of the 305's.
but the throttle body is a updated version of
the cross fire system.
