posi traction

How can you tell if you have posi traction without doin a burnout

It might say on the label on the rear-end. Depending on the vehicle, it might be in code form though. You can also take the third member off and look in there. A burn out is a good way, if the vehicle can do it!

Most vehicles will say under the hood where it lists the gear ratio.

look int eh glove box for the white sticker...... once you find it, look for a 3 digit code "G80" if you have posi, you will find it !!!!!

Doind a burnout is not the best method as an open rear with equal traction will spin both wheels. If you jack the rear up and turn one wheel: The opposite wheel going the same way means you have a posi, the opposite wheel rotating opposite the one your turning indicates an open rear. This test does not work for lockers, just positraction!!

Actually, if you are doing a burnout on the pavement, there is no way for both rear tires to have equal traction. If they were both spinning during the burnout, what would even be the point of having positraction, lockers, or anything like that??

Posi's and lockers are designed to provide traction when one wheel has more traction then the other, most lockers will not even lock untill one wheel spins more then the other? An open rear is perfectly capable of spinning both wheels but there is nothing there to help it do so, most lockers are designed around an open diff. with some kind of engagement between the left and right axle that is activated by unequal wheel rotation.

wow, all I was saying is that there is no way for an open rear-end to both spin at the same time ("burning out"). The lockers simply stop the spider gears from rotating, causing both axles to rotate equally.
