Hey a guy i know has this pimped out civic, not much done to the engine just mostly show on the outside, but it is an automatic and he is going to put a garrett turbo on it. have a 99 5-speed prelude with cold air intake. I estimate i have about 210 hp. I think the civics come stock with like 130 or somethin. Just wonderin if you think i could run him? Oh yeh and he has some big ol' 18"s on it.

210 hp with just a filter on it? i find that hard to believe especially w/o even an exhaust... even still, you miiiight be able to.. assuming that you're putting about 195ish to the wheels... depending on if he's running the average 7 psi he'll be around 160-170 to the wheels...those big ass wheels.. i dunno i'd say you can take him.. check out this site that was posted in an earlier thread.. shows some non bs numbers of turbocharged cars

yeh man i have a cold air intake not just a filter. 99 prelude comes with 200 hp stock, check the stats....jus estimating...cold air claims to add 10-15 hp...so im just sayin 210 with 200 stock and 10 for the intake. I am going to get a full catback cuz i know with just an intake its a little restricted.

don't believe any of that bs hype.. with just a cai you're lucky to get an extra 4 or 5 to the wheels.. and on average i think you lose about 10% through the drivetrain to the wheels so you're most likely putting down 190 to the wheels with the cai.. you would be lucky to hit 200 with catback on there, i'd suggest replacing the cat with a high flow or just replace it with a test pipe.. wouldn't worry too much about the header, prelude's already flow pretty well in that section.

yeh well, just goin with the stats...comparin stats to other cars. If my car says it comes 200 stock and a civic says it comes with 135 then the actual hp at the wheels would be equally less than it says...so same difference. Anyway it goes...i've run a NOS'ed up hatchback so i aint complainin. Still got mods i wana do, nothin much done to it. Anyway keep the teg clean hate to see u rice out that clean car.

only other visual modifications will be a stock spoiler and lowering just enough to close wheel gap, as well as get rid of all the amber in the lights.... and i guess i should count the massive fmic that'll be visible through the front grille

yeah you should be able to beat him pretty easily.. i can hang with my buddy's 98 lude.. but he's one of the worst drivers i've ever seen

yeh we'll see when he gets the turbo installed...but yeh it really is all about the driver because a few weeks ago i saw a 300zx get his butt kicked by a NX2000, which was pretty sad because the ZX was a 5-speed and that NX barely even beat me in my 90' 5-speed accord.
Is your teg the LS Vtec? Cuz i know those LS Vtec engines are popular swaps. Never seen one run in person but they r supposed to be fast.

nope.. engine is pretty much stock right now.. around mid to late august i'm going to get an engine and start building it up for a turbo and stuff... she'll be a beast:)

You'll beat him easy.

Anyway, i wanted to make this clear for everyone, now that we're on the topic.

Intake doesn't give you +10hp. In most cases it doesn't even give you +5. Maybe 2-3whp

So with calculations. 200hp minus the general 15% drivetrain loss giving you about 170whp (while this being very generous, most stock preludes dyno in the high 160's) + your 2-3whp gain from your intake giving you around 172-173whp

Sorry, that +10hp figure is false.

HINT: Prelude with i/h/e will net you around 185whp (again being generous)

Well in any situation, I've beat my friends GMC he says has over 300 hp and i've run Mustang GT's pretty good with however much horses they have and thats just with CAI so i aint too disappointed.

300hp stock on a prelude . . . . minus the 25-ish% loss of power at the flywheel so you're maybe making 180whp if you're lucky :)

remember his car is an AUTO i would not worry too much his car may be a bit lighter but i still think a 5sp. can take and auto as long as you do full throttle shifts
