cleaning tips

sorry for all the new threads, but u guys are like the best way for me to find out how to take care of my car. so by way of cleaning it, i ahve like caked on pollen, cuz it got on my car then rained, and i used a cali. duster, but that didnt get it off, so should i just wash it, or is rain-x good, or is there any special wax or anything u guys recommend. also, on the glass, wut do you guys think is the best, cuz i dont want anything with harsh chemicals taht will ruin the glass...(the idiots at the dealer already used windex on the gauges, and clouded them up)

where is the pollen caked on to? that bit of info would help... for your glass, try "invisable glass clearn" that stuff works great, then use rain X for rain. for the interior, armor all for the leather rain X anti fogger for your foging gauges.. for the body, any wax is good, that's your choice.. as long as you read the directions and follow completely.. o yea, sorry guys, the pollen is caked on everywhere, from the windshield, to the glass roof, to the side of the body.

The windows can be cleaned with vinagar and water.

Washing the car with Ivory dish soap will remove the pollen, but it will also remove the wax. Some people don't think using dish soap is a good idea, but I've used it and then did the clay bar followed by a couple coats of polish and then a couple coats of wax. She really shines after that. It takes time and you can't leave the car exposed to the elements with no wax on it.

You could also try a clay bar to remove contaminants from the surface and works on windows too! :smile:

That vinegar is a good tip. My aunt has to park her Audi at work in a parking garage that leaks. The water wears away the concrete and it drips onto her car leaving white spots where it lands. She took it to a detail shop and the bastards were retarded and told her she needed to get it repainted. I talked to a friend, he gave the white vinegar advice, and presto it all came off, now she carries a jar of it and a rag to work all the time.

Stop in at your local Walmart or KMart and check one out. Its litterally a bar of clay that you use to rub on the surface of your car. There are sprays you use to keep it moist, but it rubs out the crap that gets into your finish. You can feel how smooth the surface is before and after you do this. Its amazing how much better you get the car by using a claybar to start a detailing project. Its a lot of work, but after polishing and waxing, the cars paint will look as good as new.
