key stuck in ignition

Help!!
My buddys 97 S-10 pickup with V6 and automatic. His key will not come out of ignition. Is there a neutral or park safety switch some where? Or any other ideas?
We have tried everything we can think of, and tried yanking the key.

Did you try turning the wheel slightly and at the same time turn the key back?

yep, we have tries every gear and turned wheel in different locations. still in parking lot at work trying.
