Have a 98 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3 and have been running 5/30 weight oil in it but now I'm wondering if I should switch to 10/30 for the summer. Van now has 78,000 miles on it and just out of extended warranty where I always brought to the dealer for oil changes but now I'm going to do it myself. Owners manual calls for 5/30.

I always ran 5W30 in both my vehicles year round with no problems. Van is a 94 with 77,000 miles and truck is a 92 with 67,000 miles.

It really depends on the climate. If your driving in extreme summer heat and you plan on keeping your vehicle for some time, I would use a synthetic 10W30. You will not be dissapointed. You get what you pay for many times over with good oil.

Thanks Yale, I just might give that a try, I typically try to keep my vehicles as long as possilbe and the Caravan stays in the garage in the winter as I use mostly for long trips where you need to haul people, bikes and model airplanes.
