Question About Gauge Cluster

CivicGirl

I would like to have a gauge cluster in my car that has the tach also, but the only ones made are for Si/Ex, which have different redline and all of that, is there anyway to work around that?

I would post this in the Civic forum, but I'm too scared to go in there :o

I heard that the LX gauge cluster has the same redline as the DX. You might want to look in to that. Other than that I say just go for EX/SI one.

I just looked it up and the LX does have the same redline as the DX. :D

You could easily swap in a LX gauge set... :)

Are you looking for a pillar gauge or to replace guages you already have?

Replace the gauges I already have :)

Also, I have a CX model so the redlines might be different, but if I change the ECU (just a thought from fakirone) to a DX/LX then the DX/LX gauges would work right?

I don't know much about all this stuff :silly:

I don't know much about this stuff either, but I just wanted to say that my LX starts to redline at 7 and goes to 8. And the ecu shuts off the fuel at 120 mph. Does that help any?

I don't know, I have a 1995 LX right now, and the redline starts at 6.5 and goes to 8 or something :bloated:

But I thought DX's didn't have a tach?

This stuff is all really confusing.

yeah, I don't think the DXs have a tach. You could get one that mounts on the dash, if you do it right it will look good. :)

I'll have my friend figure something out :silly:

Go with the LX gauges for your car. It has the closest matching redline to the one on your cx.

Why are you scared to join us in the '92+ Civic forum. I moderate in there also. We don't bite, I promise.... unless you are into that kind of thing. ;) :D

As for swapping the gauge cluster... that would be pretty easy. You can find the EX cluster at a local junk/wrecking yard. What you would want to do is remove the speedometer from the new cluster and put in your original one... it's the same size and it will fit. You want to do this so that you have the correct odometer information. About the tachometer... I don't think it's much to worry about. Don't you have an automatic? If you don't, I appologize... I don't remember. Anywayz... I wouldn't mind have an incorrect redline... all I'd have to do is remember what the correct redline is.

If you want a seperate tachometer, there's a few ways to go. You need to keep in mind that not all tach's are huge and ugly. Some time ago I decided to get a small temporary tach for my car. I didn't want the bigger programable racing tach quite yet... so what I did was I went to a local auto parts shop (Schuck's Auto Supply) and I checked out the tachs. I found a small 3 inch tach for just 25 bucks. I checked it out, decided it would suffice, and I bought it. I installed it on my steering column just behind the turn signal lever. It's small, out of the way, and kinda cute. ;) Here's a picture of it after I installed it... the picture is way old. Note: though the angle of the picture makes it look like the tach is in the way of the other gauges, it's not really. From the driver's perspective it's in the perfect place where you can see all four gauges just fine. Also.... no, my car doesn't redline at 5,000... I just set it there for the time being.

You can see it in this picture from a side view.

You have a CX?!?! I thought you have a coupe... CX doesn't come in coupe. The DX is a coupe model. Also... the CX and DX use the exact same cluster. Just lettin' you know... you had me confused. :D

Also... the DX and LX gauges aren't the same. The DX gauges are the same as CX gauges and do not have a tach. The LX gauge is totally different and it does have a tach... that's why the LX gauge cluster was recommended to you.

I'll be sure to post pics...:):):):)

Nevermind... I just now saw this in another thread. That's cool. 5 speed, nice. Have you driven it yet... and do you like it? I have a CX myself and I hate the teeny weeny lawnmower engine. 1.5 liter, 8 valve, 70 hp. :( Oh well, I hope you like it. You can alwayz save up and do a swap later and be an even cooler girl than you are now. If you ever have questions about your new CX, you can ask me since I have one.

Technically I have 2 Civics right now, a CX (new) and an LX (trying to sell).

The hatch is my new "fix up" car. I am planning an engine swap, but I don't know how far away that will be. Maybe this summer, if I can talk my dad into it. I would like to be able to have my tach in the dash board, but I also want indiglo gauges, and I think they are a bit harder to find for an LX. Sooo...I might just deal and get the DX + a small aftermarket tach. Girls are too damn picky :silly:

What do you think about the ECU swap that was mentioned in the other thread? (change the CX ECU to a DX or LX) I dont' know much about any of it...but I'm learning! I'll probably be bugging you for alot of help :D So I'm going to go back to OT now...cos this is a scary place :o

:D

If you've got the CX motor, don't change the ECU out for a DX or LX ECU... not a good idea. The motors have totally different specs.
