engine swap

hey guys, a friend of mine has a corolla 1.3 16v 1998 and wants to put a bigger engine in. is this possible and what modifications is he going to need i.e transmission wise.

I think that car is called a Starlet here in Australia. A pic would really help me out. I think you'll find the 5E-FE from a JDM Paseo is 1.5l and a bolt in fit. Add a hair dryer and turn the treads! :)
