hey all.....i just ordered some books off of amazon and was wondering if anyone had them already and found them useful....lemme know.....and if no one's tried these books, then i'll post sumthin on them after i give 'em a read......
[B]"How To Build Honda Horsepower:Dyno-Verified Results"
Richard Holdener[B]
--i'm pretty excited about this one, as it looks at Civics and gives Dyno results for all sorts of different bolt-ons and mods.....
[B]"Honda/Acura Engine Performance: How to Modify D, B and H Series Honda/Acura Engines for Street and Drag Racing Performance"
Mike Kojima[B]
--i've read a few things about this one being a little over the top technical....
so, i got myself a hardback BASICS book.....
[B]"Auto Fundamentals (Text)"
Martin W. Stockel[B]
--the last one is supposed to break down every aspect of engines....what the part does, why changes in design assist performance, etc.....the book cost $60, so i hope it's worthwhile.....

i'm interested in that first dyno book too....especially with all the talk on this forum about what bolt-ons work and how much hp "supposedly" comes from them....i'll start posting photocopies of dyno results to settle some of those battles....peace....mc

I saw that first book today at Barnes And noble, it looked pretty informative. I really only skimmed the contents page, but it definently seemed to cover a lot. Think there was a crx with a gsr motor in there; i should have looked thru it more...

Honda Builders Handbooks I and II by Joe Pettitt, are pretty good, nice tech stuff/ Honda/Acura Engine Performance by Kojima is also very good. Those and a copy of hte Helms for you model are suggested reading in my book.

All I have to say about someone elses "verified" dyno sheets is where, what elevation, whats the temp outside, air pressure, what dyno, you get the point? Just saying something that can be affected by soo many outside influences is "verified" takes creditability away from the start. All they can tell you for sure is the verified results of thier dyno, at that time, that temp, on and on....unless they dyno'ed htem all across the county, in all different conditions, and are going to give you either all of the results, or a nice averge.

jcrx.....i see what yer saying....the books just arrived today, so i'll see if anything useful can be gleened from it with that in mind.....if i had to guess i'm thinking that they are not gonna give specifics like elevation, air temp, humidity, on and on....so maybe the most valuable stuff to take away from it is comparisons of the gains from different bolt-ons to the same vehicle, same city, same dyno, if air temps are given....i'll find out how it's organized.....
i'll post sumthin on monday if any of the books turns out to really useful or really comedic

UPDATE:
well the Kojima book is pretty cool....although there is barely anything in there on the B18C5 or JDM B18C ITR engine, there is still a lot of cool ideas for all motor builds of B-series engines and turbo builds too....it had me thinking about a deck plate, re-sleeving, new pistons, longer rods...and too much other expensive shite that i can't afford right now....
the DYNO book is also pretty interesting....they basically take several different cars and do DynoJet runs with one bolt-on on the car and then do the same car, same DynoJet runs with a different bolt-on on the car and compare the two that way.....
sometimes they compare aftermarket to stock and sometimes compare two or 3 different aftermarket bolt-ons for the same car....they look at intakes, camshafts, throttle bodies, ECU's, header/exhaust combos, etc....there's a lot of info for B16, and D series engines, less for the B18C GSR and almost nothing on the B18C5....
the automotive fundamentals book is really cool.....after reading that and some serious wrench time you could pass the ASE....the book is really detailed on function of a part, how fabrication affects function, etc....i think this book must be used in automechanic courses....
let me know if anyone has any questions about the contents of the book or a specific Dyno comparison....
jcrx is right though....these numbers are not the numbers that you will get with the bolt-on....it's just a comparison of one persons car on one day looking at two different bolt-ons....

hey P....actually there is not one single Dyno test with the D17A engines....so nothing directly relevant in the Dyno book....the Kojima book would still probably be inspiring....covers some basics on adjusting ignition timing for the D series, boost and rod replacement, etc....
i posted the table of contents for the Honda Tuning Dyno test book on my website....6th PAGE....
it's not the most clear shot, but you can read most of the engine codes that they do the tests with....a lot of B16A stuff.....
http://www.cardomain.com/id/ekb18cjdmitr
ANYONE: send a msg if you want me to scan in some dyno graphs for one of the comparisons....
