Rough Idle-2000 Silverado

I have no codes in the message center or history when they hook the machine up. The rough idle occurs when I am sitting at a light and engine is either warm or cold. It hasn't stalled yet and the idle is noticably rough at any given time, hot or cold weather. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to get this fixed?


Anyways, if anyone has any ideas about the rough idle, what I can check, let me know,

The newer silverados tend to develop a slightly rough idle over time. I have been told by multiple dealers the idle is normal. I am not sure how many miles are on the truck but you might try replacing the fuel filter and having the injectors cleaned if the rough idle is real noticable.

I have a hard time believing it's the fuel filter, for sure, I can't drive past a gas station without pulling in to keep my needle off the empty mark. THe mechanic told me the rough idle was normal for the chevy trucks, but i have a hard time believing that.. i will put some injector cleaner in and see if that helps. thanks for the post

Go find you some cleaner called SEAFOAM. It comes in 16 oz cans. I think NAPA might have it. I get mine at a local parts house. Take 1 can and use it as a top engine cleaner, fine a vacuum hose ( I use brake booster hose) and slowly pour entire can in without allowing engine to stall. Shut off motor just as the last bit gets out of the can. Let it sit for 4-6 hours, the can says 5 min but 4-6 hours works great! Crank it back up and go for a drive. It will smoke a lot for 5-10 miles! Take 1 1/2 cans and add to a full tank of gas. Drive and watch it get better! This stuff sells for 3.95 a can in my area. :2cents:
