Turbocharge/Supercharge a convertible?

Um... this might be a really obvious question... but I'm new to this entire car modding scene...
Can convertibles be turbocharged/supercharged/etc.? For example, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder.
Initially, I'm thinking no... but then again... maybe?
Softtop = no
Hardtop = maybe?
I'm just curious.

...you can do whatever you want to a car with money, whether it's hardtop or not. THe only downside to having a convertible is that it'll weigh more.

well, what I meant was... the locking mechanisms for the soft/hard top convertibles are strong enough? I mean, with the turbo, I assume there would be frequent "jolting" action from turbo lag...

there shouldnt be any jolting. when a turbo caches up from the lag its a relitively smooth process, at least no jolting-unless something is wrong.

That is correct there is jolt with turbo cars. Unless you drive a pro stock car or something;)
The only disadvantage performance wise of convertibles is regarding handling. The chassis will be more prone to flex during cornering or the car will be heavier due to extra structural reinforcement.

In terms of tubrocharging a car, I haven't heard of a turbo chareged convertible ... is there any other reasons why-other than the flex issue?

it doesn't matter if you have a conv. or hardtop.The turbo or super is under the hood.It is going to take alot more power than what your car will produce to mess up your top, but since you probably have a 4 banger you need a turbo for top end power that you aren't going get from a super. Though turbos cost a little bit more they sound badass too.

turbochargers have absolutely no effect on the the top of a convertible. As far as turbo lag goes it is not even close to what you think it is. It is not as though you make a bunch more horsepower all at once. You probably wouldnt even know you were in a turbocharged car except for the wistling noise or if you saw under the hood.

of course you can turbo a convertible its just all a matter of wether or not you wanna deal with the bad sides of it (extra weight, handling, etc.) since usually when you are modding a car you are goin for quick acceleration for a 1/4 mile killer, great handling for that road course racer, or a mixture of the two

that's only if you're building it for racing, if you want it to be more fun to drive then it doesn't matter.
