transmission

I have a 95 GMC 5.7 K1500 ‘burb with an intermittent problem.
Sometimes when started (hot or cold) the transmission only works in reverse and only in 2nd regardless of whether the shifter is in 1, 2, D, or O/D.
I think it is an electrical problem because when it happens, the tachometer is dead as well. Most times, turning the engine off and restarting clears the problem, but sometimes it has to sit overnight.
I search the forum to no avail – has anyone seen this before?

sounds like a bad ignition switch(electrical part), check for 12v at the trans fuse the next time it happens
