Corvette (ZO6 package) vs. Ferrari 550

I say the 550. The ZO6 has great speed but even though it can compair with $200,000 cars it still doesn't give you the exotic feel; it's more of a bargin though.

In the most recent Road and Track, they did a comparo of paired sports cars from Chevy, Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Honda. The fastest car on the road course was the Ferrari 360 Modena, the second fastest was the Corvette Z06, and third was the Ferrari 550 Maranello. Since this road course pretty much measures all aspects of a car's performance together, it is a good measure of a car's overall worth as a sports car. And the Z06 is supposedly very plush and luxurious inside.

Z06 = No power accesories.
550 = Power Everything!!!
The 550 is a nicely furnished car and the Z06 as much as I love it is stripped down. 60 pounds taken due to new tires etc... I have never got to sit in a Z06. I have sat in a 550 "Enzo can vouch on that one, infact I gave up a ride in it cause I know he would appreciate it 10 fold then I would. And I love that damn car but..." The Z06 gets to 60 in 4.0 the 550 in 4.7 and the 360 in 4.3... These are all awesome beautiful pieces of artwork but you do get more shelling out the 180,000 more for the 550. And plus its a Ferrari. Duh, thats all I really should of wrote....

OK I said it... Two are Ferraris not a Chevy... Do I need to say anything else....

HA HA, too right. The thing about a Corvette is that though it is a nice American car, it is still an American car. Hence the term "exotic," which weighs very favorably among those holding the large bank books. And I have a rare occasions been treated to see why first-hand. Ferraris are the real deal when it comes to top dollar feel, look, sound, comfort, and of course performance.

The Z06 no power accessories?? Seat memory package, seat heating, HUD(available next year), Bose Stereo System, Dual Climate AC, cruise, power windows, power locks, illuminated mirrors, and cup holders. Does the 550 have cup-holders? Suprisingly, the Z06 is very luxerious(sp?) on the inside.

All of this said the Ferrari is also an extremely nice car. Still, I think I will go with the Z06, and also add on a Viper, Mustang Cobra R, a few mods, and I will still not meet the price of the Ferrari. On the other hand, if money were no object, I would take the Ferrari hands down. Like you said, after all, it is a Ferrari.

I would have to say Z06 Because I like American cars the ferrari is nice but waaaaaaaaaaay over priced and waywaywaywayway over rated.

Agreed on the price, but not on the rating. The 550 truly is one of the greatest cars in history. It's fast, fast, fast, and gorgeous! It's incredible. Everything about it just screams "speed". It's sound is almost orgasmic, and it's seats are completely comfortable. I take the 550...even with the massive price tag.

IMO, there's no comparing the two cars in any real sense. Without taking anything away from the truly excellent Corvette, look up the term "sports car" in any dictionary and it should say "see Ferrari". No greater reason has ever been given to man to blow 200k than the Prancing Horse, 'nuff said.

Don't forget the Corvette name has been around for almost as long as Ferraris and probably heard as much. It's a special car in every way, that's why it's worthy enough to be compared to a Ferrari. Having said that I'd a take a Z06. If I had to choose I'd take the 360 enjoy it for a while and then give it up. It is a Ferrari!

I'll take the Z06, because its a Chevy.
I prefer the looks, the name and the engine sound.

If I was given a choice, I would take the Ferrari but if I am spending my own money:D, I would take the Z06. It is really hard to compare these two because there is such a big difference in price. The Ferrari is a true exotic supercar where the Z06 is a sports car.

If the price is included, Z06. Without price, 550 Maranello. Simply talking about cars the Maranello is an exotic Italian supercar that turns heads 100 %. The Z06 is one great American sports car, but the only reason I would choose the Z06 in this comparo is the price.

Ferrari without a doubt!!
You guys are missing one HUGE point here, the 550 is a GT car, it isn't all about superspeed, plus it weighs like 700 pounds more than the Z06
plus IMO the Z06 looks like ass

If money was no object, then definitely the ferrari, but if I'm spending my own money then I'm not going to pay $200,000 for a car, I'd take the ZO6.

Well the Z06 rapes the Ferrari in most performance aspects, while still costing $150,000 less. I think that says enough.

Well, you see, NO! I read that the z06 does 0-60 in 4. It's hodge-podge. BAH! Ask a little child which car they like more. Put the Ferrari (either one) next to the Z06. Who gets more looks. Ask anyone. "Well, the Z06 is cheaper..." Is that all you can say? BAH!
GNX makes me want to vomit all over my self while shoving snakes up my ass and having horses stomp on my genitals. Could that car be any uglier? :)

Actually no, that's not all I can say. If you can read, you would noticed that I also stated that the Z06 is an all around better performer. And personally I think the Z06 looks almost as good as the Ferrari, so a car that out-performs another, while looking almost as good, and still costs WAAAAYYYYY less, has good reason to be chosesn over the other. I would take the Z06 any day, unless I was spending someone elses money.

Oh, and if the ASC would have built the GNX off a AMC Pacer....yeah it could look ALOT uglier. Is all you look for in a car good looks? Maybe you should re-consider your title as a car enthusiasts, because I would trade speed for looks pretty much any day.

I would probably pick the Z06 for performance and looks... in my opinion the Ferrari has too many little slots and slits in the body. Without them it looks great, better than the Corvette. But that's not the case, so I'm forced to take the cheaper car.

Lizard King@af- Absolutely, that's likely the best example of a Z06 I've seen to date. Stunning!
MrCorvetteZ06- How do you like the Penske's? Are they external reservoir or internal? That's quite a modification list considering the car is a 2001 model!

I would still take a 550 over one of my dream cars (ZO6). Anyway, can I just ask that guy (sorry I forgot your name :D ) how you got 4.2 0-60? I test drove one and timed it too. My time was closer to 4.5 seconds. :) How did you time your ZO6? The old fasion way? BTW, where do you live? Your car looks like a challenge to race. I have a modified R33 (Skyline GTR). :)

I like the 550 better. The Z06 is my favorite car under $80,000, but you can't beat the Ferrari's classic 12 cylinder engine, great sound, and that beautiful styling!

Nice car you got there. 4.27 sec is pretty damn good. How did you lauch your Z06? I think it's capable of better times (stock). I was on CorvetteForums and a guy ran his Z06 to a blistering 4.08sec! He said he revved it up to 2000-2500rpm dropped the clutch and floored it.
Back on the topic. The Ferrari Modena looks good but not that good. In fact every time I look at the car it looks uglier for some reason. It's kind of bubly and I hate the way the front looks. The Z06 looks much better. It might be a Ferrari but it ain't perfect. Did anyone read R&T latest issue where they have the batte of the brands. They tested all the cars on the track and Z06 came .6sec behind the Modena and 2.4sec in front of the Porsche 996TT. I don't know but that says a lot to me. The racetrack was ThunderHill Park. I don't know jack about ThunderHill Park, is it a tight track or one with straights?

Yes 4.08 is pretty fast but I have been hearing really great numbers on the strip. I think the Z06 gets 12.3-12.4sec @113-116mph. Guys don't get me wrong I never said the Z06 looks better than the 550, I said it looks better than the 360. The 550 is just beautiful, and the 360 really isn't (to me at least). If I was offered a ZR1 I'd take that over a 550 or a 360.
J.T. Marlin

I wouldn't take any Corvette over a New 360 Modena F1 or 550 Maranello. Maybe only a 1967 L88 'Vette, but that's it, cause it had like 600 HP and did the 1/4 mile in 12 seconds. The 550 Maranello is just a fantastically designed car, the 360 is just a cooler car. The 550 has all those nice features, but the 360 has a clear engine bay and the F1 paddles, making it a bit cooler.
