I'm tring to get rid of everything I don't need under the hood and i was woundering if I need the smog pump to pass emissitions? I'm also going to be putting headers on and then I'll really have to lose the pump. RIGHT?

by smog pump do you mean the air injection pump? then yes, you do need it if you have to pass emissions.

Edelbrock sells headers that have the air injection tubes and an O2 sensor already mounted.

my brother took the smog pump off his 86 trans am,
he had to put studs back in the holes in the
manifolds. but we dont have smog inspections
here in kentucky. it didnt help the car hp wise
i believe that it made the exhaust smell like
it is running ritch.

i believe removing the power steering pump will free up hp, ive heard anywhere round 15hp

the power benefits of removing the power steering DO NOT out weight the luxury of power steering. you dont get 15 horsepower, maybe like 2 or 3. the A/C delete does wonders. doesnt free up much power, prolly the same as the P/S but if you take out the condenser too then the car runs with atleast a ten degree coolant difference...

Because a smog pump burns-off excess fuel that makes it through to the exaust system. Basically, all it does is blow air into the exaust and has little horsepower drain. Every aftermarket header I'm aware of is designed to clear the pump and if you run a serpentine belt you don't want a long expanse of belt between pulleys (more than 10") as it will vibrate alot!
