I wanted to customize the inside of my 1995 eclipse, but haven't seen any pictures of other people doing this with their eclipse. Does anyone know a good website or can you guys here show me your pics? Also, what are some eclipse websites i can visit to order parts and get pics? Thanx for the help.

Remember to follow your own style when customizing your car after all you do not want to end up with something you do not like...like an annoying interior color...

this is not my car but i went off this car when i did my interior... i got a hold of the guy and he got me the seat covers that i took to a fabricator and had them sew them on... my interior looks identical to this car, and the white isnt actually that hard to keep clean... i like it!!!

yes i painted the plastic myself... i used the exterior white (same color as a white eclipse) and i used a spray gun and did it in my paint booth! i did 3 coats of paint and 2 coats of clear so i can armorall it and it will shine instead of remove the paint!

That is SWEET!!! I would love to do something like that to my car! Did you do all of it yourself (other than the sewing?). Was it difficult? I have been trying to get information on the proper way to do something like that! Did you have to rough up the plastic before you painted it? And you painted it with regular automotive paint (like PPG or equiv)? Just a normal clear coat? Please give me all the details. How did you do the shift boot and the visors? That is just fucking awesome! (sorry for the language  )

Thats very nice. Is the mitsu symbol on the pass air bag vinyl or is it painted

EclipseRST
04-28-2004, 12:30 PM
yes you need to sand them lightly so you dont get marks...800-1000 grit is was i used

i used regular automotive paint and a normal clear...

as for the Passanger air bag, i painted mine, made a template out of cloth and taped it to the cover so it made the perfect symbol!

So is that all there is to it....remove the parts from the car, sand, base, clear? Did you wetsand after the base or clear? I don't have a paint booth..do you think it would be better for me to remove them and take it to a paint shop or set something up in my garage (I have a gun, not a great one or anything, and a compressor)? Once everything is done does the paint hold up well or do you have to be very careful to avoid scratching? Thanks!

well i spent quite a bit of time doing mine! it wasnt easy to do... and no i didnt wet sand it, its on plastic so it wouldnt work out too well!

if you really wanted to you could just get a plastic spray paint and some clear and be done with it!

the way i did mine is done so good that you can take armoral or any dash cleaner to it and the paint wont come off... it hasnt scratched or messed up at all so it has held up pretty well so far (1-1/2 yrs). it all depends on how you take care of your car and how you want to present it!

It looks pretty involved....Which is fine by me, nothing nice ever seems to come easy. For example, did you dismantle everything on the doors for painting (I see in the picture that only part of the door is painted) or did you just tape what you didn't want painted?

all i know for the air bags is that you do is unhook your negative battery cable and leave it unhooked. Wait 5 minutes than you can start disassembling your air bags. To be safe though, leave it unhooked for quite a while, than you can take them off.

just pull... the air bag wont blow up! the sensors are in the front bumper so when there is impact they sense it and the airbags inflate!

as for taking everything apart, for the doors i just taped them off, same with the glove box... and to get that out you have to pull the 2 screws out of the bottom of it, then pull the 2 black holders (one on each side of the glove box on the inside!) off.

Good idea redline.....I'm up for that. We can send you our parts (since you have a paint booth) and some paint! I don't mind driving around without a door panel/glovebox/etc for awhile.

I am not sure but I have seen some different prices. From the prices I have seen no more than 120$... This isn't that hard to do yourself. Takes a little time. Just light coats etc. Let it dry for the desired amount of time. But if you have the money then it is easier to get someone else to do it :)

I'd pay $120 for that!

I was wondering if there was a website that shows u how to remove all the trim and plastic??

EclipseRST
04-29-2004, 10:11 PM
sure... you pay shipping tho! i can supply everything else...

as for the trim question:

just pull on them and find out where the places its held down and pull around them so you dont break the piece! its really easy.

Jake does the paint chip/scratch off the part above the sideskirt when you open/close the door

EclipseRST
05-08-2004, 07:42 PM
no it doesnt... the paint is very hard to scratch just because there is so many coats of paint and clear coats!

No guys DO NOT attempt to paint inside your car! You'll mess up something for sure, take it out and lightly sand it to give the paint something to bond to and also clean it so you wont get fish eye. Regular can spray will work fine, but if you do want the top notch look the automotive compressed spray paint will work a lot better, with a clear coat. Its not that expensive to do acctually if you have a small air compressor and pick up a cheap gun for like ($15) and some cheap low end PPG paint about ($35 a quart). You dont need the water filter to do this job, just drain out your old air tank before you start and you should be fine. I would try to get some cheap clear coat with hardener and do that up too, but its up to you. Talk to some people at a paint store they'll be bale to help you more. Just dont paint inside your car.
