im not sure if i can afford an rsx type-s right now. i really like the type-s for the extra horsepower and the 6 speed. would it be stupid of my to buy a 5 speed instead? and what are the major differences besides the leather, power, and gears?

Other than hp and amenities the Type-S has an 11.0:1 compression ratio to a 9.8:1 in the base model. In the S i-Vtec operates on both the intake and exhaust valves as opposed to intake only for the base. Also, the base has a dual stage intake manifold while the S has a single set of runners to enhance high rpm output. I think the S also has upgraded rotors over the base, but not 100% sure.

Type S is well worth the extra dough.
All of which RSX-s7777 already stated is correct.
Although he missed a few other features that are nice to have.
Unlike the base model, the Type s has a front strut-tower brace and sport tuned suspension alone with larger vented front disc breaks.
Rear brake rotors 10.3 inches
Front brake rotors 11.8 inches (type s only)
Also the front break caliper piston area is reduced in size to improve the rigidity and braking "feel" to a more solid linear pedal depression.
Lasty the type s model has a variable-assist rack and pinion steering system.
Which includes higher mounted steering box and tie rods, 43% longer control arm and if my memory serves me correctly a closer ratio power steering system for the basic faster responsiveness.
Thing I like best is they added a oil-filled steering damper for a more solid feel and better straight line stability. Which you will need when curising over 200km/hour :)

Yup, the guys above me are right.
From a luxury POV:
Leather
I think Heated Seats and Mirrors (dunno about the US version though)
If you're in Canada you get gunmetal rims
Different Colours
Also, the Type S has more mods available.

hahaha true true.
I want a Leaf vs Flames final too.
When the Leafs play I cheer for them, when Flames play I cheer for them. I at LEAST want a Canadian team taking Mr. Stanely home, preferable Leafs/Flames :).

My reasons for getting the RSX typeS vs stock:
1. Fully loaded w/ leather CD changer, etc
2. Faster car / engine
3. Better handling than base
4. Base w/leather = $21k TypeS = $23k
5. Engine is the first thing I look at when buying a vehicle so the extra $2k is worth it.
I probably could have done without the leather, though. It requires more maintenance and keeps the cheeks cold in the winter and searing in the summer. Of course you Canadians have the nice heated seats! Must be nice.

Yeah. Seems like common sense to choose the batter model...if you can afford it.
