Where did you get the stereo from?? I installed a Kenwood in my 1991 from Crutchfield.com. When I get home from work, I will see if I wrote down the correct wiring info. Crutchfield.com will give free over the phone tech. support (wire coding) if you bought the stereo from them.

Well, I have installed a couple of my own stereos, but I am not an expert or anything. I will try and remember to check the wiring diagram when I get home from work.

If I were you I would check to be sure you have all the wires properly wired. Else, it sounds like you are getting interference from somewhere. Have you properly attached ground wires? It could be a wire is contacting the frame somewhere, shorting it out. How did you connect wires? You should solder were possible, there could be some loose connections.

I have been in the aftermarket high-end stereo business for over 25 years and here is what you need to do: First is the original factory radio plug still attached to the harness? If it is then you can simply purchase an after market wire harness adapter which will plug into the factory harness and then connect the stripped ends to the new radio harness color for color. If you have a power antenna connect the blue wire of your new rado to the blue on the harness. The part number for this harness (Metra 70-1002)

If the plug was cut off then you will need to follow the following instructions:
First: you will need a multimeter ( DO NOT USE A TEST LIGHT) and you will need to test all of the leads for constant power(B+). Once you find this connect the yellow from your new radio harness to this wire. (SOLDIER AND TAPE OR USE BUTT CONNECTORS. DO NOT TWIST AND TAPE. THIS CAN CAUSE NOISE IN YOUR SYSTEM)
Second:you need to check for switched power. turn your ingition switch to on and test for 12V on every wire until you get the reading on the meter. Turn off the ignition and see if the voltage drops. If it does this is your 12V switched. Connect the red wire from your radio harness to this lead. The ground is the braded silver wire that was attached to the original factory radio. Now you need to check for illumination. This wire will give you 12V when the parking light switch is turned on. Test all the remaining leads with the switch on until you find it. Please note this vehicle may not have had this wire but you need to check for it. If you find you have this wire connect the orange/white or orange wire from your new radio harness to this wire. If you do not find a illumination lead on the factory harness or if you do not have an orange or orange/wht lead from your radio tape off the loose one so it does not short out.

Okay now you are ready to test for speakers. To do this you have to use a 9v battery and by a process of elimanation we will find each pair of leads for each speaker. Select any one of the leads from the factory harness and hold it on one of the battery terminals. Touch any of the remaining wires to the other terminal until you get a pop from a speaker. When you get a pop that is the pair for the speaker you hear it from. Connect these leads to the correct pair from the new deck. (NOTE: BECAUSE WE DO NOT KNOW THE POLARITY OF THESE LEADS WITH OUT SEEING THE MOVEMENT OF THE SPEAKER YOU WILL HAVE TO JUST CONNECT THEM TO THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE LEADS FROM YOUR NEW RADIO HARNESS. EXAMPLE: LEFT FRONT IS WHT+ WHT/BLK-)
All of the negative leads from your new radio harness will have a black stripe on them. If you want to get the polarity correct you can remove each speaker and click it like I described and watch for the speaker movement. if the speaker moves out from the basket you have the correct leads + and - on the battery, so just connect them accordingly. If the speaker moves in when you click it you have them reversed so you need to reverse the + and - before making the connection to the new harness. Follow this same process for each speaker until you find all four of them. If you come up with a dead pair, you probably will have a bad speaker or a broken wire. I know this sounds like a lot to follow but it really is not a big deal. Just take your time and you will get it done the correct way. Good luck.
