philly auto show

ok guys i went to the philly auto show yesterday and it was pretty good. they didnt have the evo vii there :( which i already knew but it was cool anyways. ok now i talked to the mitsu lady and this is what she told me. (take this with a grain of salt)

- will be coming out in sept. of this year as a 2003 model... um yeah ok, i told her that i heard from everywhere that its coming out jan. or spring of 2003 as a 2004 model but she was like no (whatever)

- will have 280 hp(!!)... i told her i heard it was gonna have like 250-260 but she said nope, 280

- will have front mount intercooler but it will probably be smaller

- and she said that she talked to the mitsu people everyday this week and they kept telling her the same thing- $27k msrp

- only bringing over 7-8k evos so get on a dealer waiting list asap, doesnt think the dealers will mark up the evos that much more than msrp

i dont know how reliable her info is but most of it seems to match what we've heard except for the release date. i am still thinking its not coming out til 2003, personally. as for the hp, we can only hope they bring it over as 280hp :D just thought i'd share what i heard.

cant wait for the ny auto show in april, the info will probably will be reliable there and they will have an evo too!!!!

WAAAA no way. thats to expensive, i can get a WRX cheaper then that.
cant be that much, just out of my range, hell the Benz is cheaper then that.

oh and i forgot to say that she said that the least picky you are about colors and stuff, the higher you go to the top of the list. i think they are only going to have 5 colors (black, white, red, yellow and bue) and i would take red or black so i guess that ups my chance to 2/5 hehe.

i will buy it as long as its less than $30k and has 250 hp or more. but remember wrxs are NOT really competing with the evo. they have 225 hp and the evos will have 25hp or more on them (without mods). the evo is going to be competing with the wrx sti which they are going to bring over in 2004 as a 2005 model i heard.

really hard to justify buying a car for 30k that i am just going to tear up. =\

Now I may be insane and exagerate on how I will drive my EVO. But one thing is for sure, I will not be defeated cause it is a little more money than we think it should be. How can we put a price on one, Half of us have never driven one yet, do we know what there worth? I mean it started at 34k, went to 30-32k, and now were down to 27k. It s a dream come true, thats 7k lower than we were origanally told, so thats a positive.

I heard the same thing from the folks (not models) at the LA show. 280hp, they said only 4 colors, red, white, black, and yellow, and 27k, about 8000 of them.

Actually, the guy said between 272 and 277 hp, which I thought was odd. But he said it was basically the same car as Japan's. I jizzed myself anyway, even though I still take it all with a grain of salt.

We arn't getting the titanium turbo, and we will not get the same transmission as the J-spec either. Spoke with the owner of http://www.teamrip.com/services.html, he does a lot of business with Ralliart, he stated that the specs for the US Lancer have been detuned a tich, our turbo's and trannys will be different all together, our HP will be about 270, reasoning is, the J-Spec has a HP rating of 310, but they rate them lower to 276 for some law, so the actual output is 310HP in Japan, but we will get a detuned EVO witha Max HP of about 270.

why a different tranny? wouldn't that be a pretty costly little piece of R&D for mitsubishi? a different turbo would be really easy, since all they would have to do is put a turbo on from one of their older evos or eclipses, but a different tranny is really wierd. It seems like it would be difficult and costly to implement, and waaaay unnecessary.

hey i'll take $27k thank you very much. i was just hoping that it would be under $30k because i couldnt afford it otherwise. i am just hoping the dealers dont mark it up too much over msrp because i dont have a nut to sell hehe, so i'd have to sell my eggs. but then again, i heard you get like $5k for one of those babies hehe. but do i really want my demon children running around? hmm, probably not. so those damn mitsu people better keep it in my price range because i am gonna go crazy if i dont get an evo. it will not be pretty. :devil:

The tranny is really not different, just a different componentry on its inside, the Evo tranny has special gears and stuff or it's how its made, not sure all details, The guy I talked to does a lot of business with Ralliart and he gets the inside track from them and Mitsu.
As for MSRP, the dealer here wasn't sure. They will be between 25-30k.
Depending on how many get here first. There is 8000 coming, but not all will hit the U.S. at once. MSRP is going to reflect supply and demand.

yeah i have to get my ass in gear and go harass the dealers by me, i think there are like 3 within 25 miles of me. i'll probably go on my lunch hour tomorrow. i'll see what they all say in regards to price, availibility, quanity, hp, the whole nine. i'll post it tomorrow night probably. so here's hoping that between 3 dealers, i'll be able to get my black or red evo under $30k :D

Everything sounds like a dream come true..!!! 270HP detuned version and AWD, under 27K .!!! that's damn cheap...
The only problem is maybe get some aftermarket products in US... I guess the Sti will have a lot more aftermarkets ..
Anyway, somebody know how much HP can handle the engine and tranny in a Evo VII ??? :smoker:

I want to know exactly what turbo they're putting in it, how reliable it is, and how much the titanium/aluminum turbine will be to swap it out if the US-spec turbo is crappy (or significantly inferior to the J-spec)

That would suck if blue wasn't an option; that's the only color I really like. can't stand yellow, red's too loud for me, black's too hard to keep clean, and white's just too, I dunno, WHITE. Besides, blue's my fave color and I already have a dark blue acura, so all my feng shui is aligned to a blue car...

As soon as you get the actual parts confirmed (is possible) let us know so we can start saving for j-spec replacement parts!

I like blue myself, but that would not stop me from getting one. I would go for red if blue was not available. I would go for any, to tell the truth. I can always paint.

If blue wasn't available, I'd go with white and re-paint, or black and wash it twice a week so it wouldn't look like ass

red is my first choice because i am an aries and its my power color hehe. but i'll take black as a second choice. i would think red and yellow would be harder to get rid of then black, white and blue though. those are more popular colors. i hope i get a red one but hey, an evo's still an evo and wonderspark is right, you can always paint :D

Are you talking about the color that the U.S. lancers come in right know, that color is Thunder Gray Metallinc, and it looks like charcoal.
They didn't make that color on the EVO's, and I'm not sure why.
The color I think that would look cool is the Bronze copper color that comes on a couple of the gen 2 eclipses.
That color is cool.

ok the annoyance of the nj car dealers is back with lots of info. :D ok i found like 12 dealers in nj and this is what they said...

dealer #1- supposed late sept., early oct. arrival date, msrp not known, mark-up will not be that much, around 220 hp (i was like um i dont think so lady hahaha), colors not known, dont know how many dealership is getting but know that a few, difference in usdm- different engine (?), recaro seats, brembo brakes, a lot of standard stuff-power everything, side impact, dual front airbags, cd player, side turn signals...she said that they just established a waiting list but they werent taking deposits and shed call me if she found out anything new

dealer #2- spring 2003, might be pushed back to 2004, getting some evos, dont know how many, no real info known, im on the waiting list and they will be taking deposits but not yet

dealer #3- see next post about these guys (grrrr) anyways, sept. 2003, dont have a price but they said "it will be thousands and thousands of dollars over msrp" (whatever), they will probably get around 5, 280 hp, comes in red, yellow and blue, it will have slightly less torque & hp than the j-spec, recaro seats, brembo brakes, no waiting list, first come first serve basis

dealer #4- late 2002, early 2003, msrp not known, will be getting very few, will be very fast (this guy was pretty vague hehe), first come first serve basis, call back in a few months

dealer #5- early 2003, dont have any other info, but are getting some, will call when more info is known

dealer #6- didnt know anything about it at all, but will call when they find out

ok now as you can see, i do absolutely nothing at work except call mitsu dealers... hahaha :hehehe: i still have 5 or 6 for tomorrow. so as you can see from the info, i got dates from this year to 2004 as release dates and no one seemed to know anything solid. this is just for any curious people. as for dealer #3, i am OUTRAGED :angryfire about how i was treated. the guy i spoke to was very condescending to me, one i think because i was a girl, and two because i sound young. now keep in mind that i am a very polite, 20 year old girl with a job and i know a good amount about the evo, more than most of these morons know. the guy kept trying to get me to come in to test drive a lancer. i appreciate him trying but after i politely declined, he should have let it go. he told me "you should just get a lancer oz rally and make it look like an evo." i said, "no thanks, i am interested in the 280 hp evo not the 120 hp lancer" (no offense to any lancer owners) i dont think he really thought a girl (god forbid) would ever really be interested in the evo and willing to shell out $30k for it. so he kept pressing the lancer on me. then finally he says "look you might as well make an appt. with us to test drive the lancer because we are the #2 mitsu dealer in nj and we are only getting 5 and they are going to be marked thousands and thousands of dollars over msrp." i said, "no thanks i have my heart set on the evo (ya jerk)" hehe. needless to say i will never buy a car from them EVER, i dont care if they have the only evos in the world! what a pompous ass. so lucky you for all you guys with 2 dealers near you, at least they sound like they know what they are talking about. out of 6, most people were like huh? and one guy thought i was asking about the new eclipse :rolleyes: i am gonna try more tomorrow and post my results for ya.

I, on the other hand, may have actually spoken to a human when I called. He said that he heard many, many rumors, but he doesn't want me to get all jumpy about them. He will keep an eye on things, and ONLY call me if he has reliable, mitsu-released info. I respect the fact that he was honest about his ignorance and didn't even try to bullshit me, unlike most of his cohorts in the car sales biz.

that charcoal color is definitely nice.... It'd be good to have that as an option

sorry guys i didnt get a chance to call the other car dealers today. i actually had to do work at work today. :eek: whats up with that??? hehe. i will call tomorrow though for sure. oh but my mom went to her toyota dealer to get door guards on her car and was talking to the guy that sold her the car and it turns out he used to work at the mitsubishi when it was under the same company (gateway). they split now and the mitsu is now shore mitsu. but he still knows the people over there and has a lot of contacts in the industry so hes gonna see what he can find out for me and maybe try and get me a good deal :) i am kicking myself now so bad because i was looking for a job like 2 months ago and i should have tried to get one at a mitsu dealer, even though they probably pay like crap hehe. oh well. more info tomorrow...

muuaahahaha , while us brits are getting boned on our prices yous lot are gettin rinsed on your cars. The UK impreza turbo has 230hp i think but loads of people here have the new (brand new) WRX from japan with the body coloured quad headlamps (they look heavy!!) and i think they are running at about 285hp. I know one guy with the P1 model impreza, dont know if YOU can get them, look it up, his has 300hp and he aint done much to it. but it looks sweet and goes like no other

and for the guy talkin about the charcoal coloured evo, i seen the new evo vii on the road here, the 2 i seen one was kinda gunmetal grey and the other was yellow, both were sweet though, them red calipers look sweet on the grey!!! Also i seen an EVO VI Makkinen edition.... mmmm

well actually my dad and i share our cars, i got me the pugeot, he got the FTO and we went dutch on the civic R,

Why are you so interested in the FTO? oh yeah cos you dont get them over there right?? well we dont get the eclipse. The FTO is new and my dad has already done the interior up, he wants 18s on it and a new air filter and forced air induction kit. As stock it beat our neighbours porsche boxster on acceleration and top speed, the boxster didnt reach 130mph and the delimited FTO went 157mph so we are proud!! they are beautiful cars though, stiff as hell but fun to drive too, wonder what a Rear wheel drive version would go like!!

The pug is sweet too i love that, i first had a 1000cc (yeah undeard of in the US!!) 106 when i was 17 but a year on i swapped it for the GTI which is only a 1.6 but its quite nicely tuned in the factory, I read loads of reviews and even on a Car show over here, One of Britains Rally Drivers, A Touring Car Driver and a Journalist for TV and Magazine said it has the best handling of all the cars hes driven!!!!!!!! he said it was the most fun and responsive!! i could believe it!! he had a diablo, a F355 lotus elise, Venturi, TVR everything and the 106 came out tops on handling!! well anyway ive ranted about shit for a while so im gonna go


oh yeah and the civic is nice too but we might swap it for the new one cos its a 2.0 not a 1.6Vtec
