rs/t better inernals for more boost

okay, I have made a desision, I have heard over and over again that the gs and rs can only handle a low amount of boost safely with stock internals. I want to rebuild my 95 rs (freshly boosted) to handle more and eat more rice. I am not talking about just the rods and stuff, I want to practicly turn the motor in to a fire breathing, power house. It's either spend my money on this, something I love, or use it on a down payment on a new RX 8 (say what you want, I drove it and like it) that I won't be allowed to modify without screwing up a perfectly good warranty. I perfer tearing apart my block.
what kind of rods, pistons, should I use? Some one told me not to try to build up compression if I am gunna add more boost. Is this true? are there any aftermarket cranks out? and should I use one?
I am gonna be taking the block out in 3 weeks to start this, but I thought I would would get a jump on parts. should I make any mods to the block ( boreing it out, decking) other that vatting it to clean it?
I know this is a lot to chew at. But i figure it might be worth the effort.
I just need some help on figureing out what to gather up. I'm not on a tight budget (yet) but I don't wanna spend 10,000 either.

I think that you are better of, searching on www.2gnt.com (http://www.2gnt.com) they will help you, and yes keep the compression lower, for more boost!

I already did, thanks, but I am asking for opinions/ suggestions. maybe someone here has done this and has seen gains or has had bad results.
I don't wanna just start throwing stuff in the block without a general idea of the pros and cons. everyone keeps telling me to swap to a gst motor, but I am already faster, and I am pretty sure I can improve the motor I got to be just as good if not better. anyone else?

You can get s stroker kit and bore it to 2.4 I believe. that would help. then just get some wiseco or je pistons and some eagle rods. I'm sure there are other good ones but those are the ones that stick out in my mind as being the better ones. have your head ported and polished, and maybe do a valve job. make sure to put new everything on as well such as water pump and oil pump and so on and so forth to avoud old parts causing problems down the road. PM eclipseRST. I'm sure he could help you out a lot with all of this stuff. he's probably got one of the top 5 fastest RST's in the country.. I shit you not. at least of all the ones I know about. (which isn't a lot... but still) Definitely lower the compression. I think HKS makes head gaskets that lower it to around 9:1 or so. that might not be for the 420a though. I'm not sure. I'm sure a lot of the guys on 2gnt could help you out too. PM some of the mods or other experienced people and ask them for personal opinions and experiences. Good luck with the project!! keep us updated.

This place sells kits as well as built bottom ends.

and

(although their site seem to have had some problems lately)

All depends on how good you are engine building. Done it before? And have a local trusty machine shop? Strip the block and head down yourself, have them hot tanked and cleaned up, resurfaced, etc, have them take the crank, new rods & pistons and dynamically balance them to as tight of tolerances as their machinery can do. This will get you a high-revving motor. Make sure you plastigage main and rod bearings, and I recommend buying ARP head studs, main studs and rod bolts as well.

I could go on for a while about building a 420a. Do some more searching on www.2gnt.com, it is a good, helpful crew over there. Lots of us have built our own bottom ends and know what works and what does not.

cool guys, appreciate the help, no it's not my first motor build up(lol I lost count at around 12) but it will be the first complete turboed build up. as far as a machine shop ,well......lets say I got that covered. ( I work for rubbermaid in the mold shop) .... he he he :naughty: can you say cad, cnc, and access to just about any tool I will ever need.... sure I knew you could  . now if I could only get a little slow time at work :banghead: ( I have already motorized my tool box (fork lift motor, some servos and a lot of welding)
as for balancing well..... I'll let someone else do this... maybe a little past my abilities. but trust me , the high rpm thing sounds very fun :naughty: but I came to the realization that something HAS to be done about the tranny. duuuhh .I am shooting for top speed here though, not low et's. I already have something for the 1/4. oh well guys, keep the ideas comming, I got a extra week before I get to start my recreation (damn overtime).

Fast right now doesnt over rule potential. The 4G63 has alot more potential that the 420A. I doubt that you motor makes around 400 hp. That is what a stock 6 bolt will take if the turbo and supporting mods are there. I dont see the point in trying to reinvent the wheel. The 4G63 is one of the best turbo 4 bangers and thats because it can handle the power. If you want it to be the "ground pounder" you want then start it right. Not to metion the aftermarket is alot bigger for the 4G63 than it is for the 420A as far as performance goes.

I doubt that you motor makes around 400 hp.

why?

ok for everyone that wants to be fast and see big improvements in power... my car has seen a lot, mainly a lot of money! lol but anyways if i would have sold my car back then for say $5000 and say saved my money instead of putting it into my car, then buying a GST or GSX for $7-8000 then put the other $2-3000 that i saved into the car for mods i would be faster than i am today! my car is slow, it should be faster but thats what i get for turboing a non turbo eclipse! so your best bet, unless you have an excessive obsession with your car then you will have so much better improvements for less money if you got a GST or GSX... i'm not trying to tell you to go out and sell your car, just do what you want! if you want to turbo your car do it! if you dont like to work on your car and dont feel like replacing everything just to make it a little faster then buy a turboed eclipse! i'm not unhappy with the results, yes i would like to be faster but its not easy when you turbo a car that was never ment to have a turbo on it! i just want my car to run a 11s pass then i am done with it! if it runs close to HRC's time, i am goin to work at it so i can beat it and have the fastest RST in the world! but if i barly break 11s thats good enough for me!!! i'll work at my GST to make that fast!

I'm not "reinventing the wheel" here, I'm trying to improve an engine to perform better, which by the way won't be running on stock internals, just a modifed stock block. If nobody tried to improve on what was already around, then we would still be driving model t's. I'm not overly concerned about the aftermarket, hell most of the mods on my gsx are factory parts from 1gs or other models, and I couldn't be happier. no my motor in the condition it is now can't pull 400 hp , thats why I am modifying. why would the block not be able to handle this, that is probably the only thing that is going to stay on the bottom end anyway.
And its gonna be bored out. block for block, how does the 4g63 handle more horse power, other than being a 6 bolt? I honestly can't answer that. hell that conversion with a stock 4g63 would probably cost me around 4500. that could get me a stage 3 kit from hahn that includes internals (seeing as I already have a stage 2). and either way somethings gonna change, might as well be the motor I have now. I do appreciate your feedback though.

I already own a gsx  I want to make my rs/t faster thats all. I am not real worried about reliability, I work on cars all the time, I have learned through that ,that
1. bigger hp usually = lower longevity
2. the world is not perfect, shit breaks
3. big $$$$ doesn't always mean big horses
I am a gearhead at heart. I make things better, faster, and worth the time put in it. no I don't wanna throw down 40,000 dollars just to say I'm the best. but I don't mind spending $$$ to make my ride faster and a hell of a lot more enjoyable. this is why I am on here asking questions, to make an informed desision BEFORE I spend my dough.

It sounds like you know what you want so I say just build it.

Michael

Oh that swap wouldnt cost that much unless you got screwed on a bunch or parts.

My thoughts......Find an EVO 8 totaled... swap engine...then your base horsepower will start at 270...then spend your 1000-2000...have the higher HP and longevity(evo 8 great motor!) I don't know i'm just babbling but your car would be hella fast!

???????? everyone else tells me that is a waste of time considering I could just drop in a 4g63, but like I said (kicking a dead horse) I want to work on the block I got. I'll probably get a stroker kit but I just don't know yet.

You CAN'T drop in a 4G63, so work with that one or get a turbo car.
