I Need Help !!! Quick!

I have recently Aquired an 88 cherokee 4wd not in the best condition, but salvageable, [i think]... It has a few problems in the engine department, the head leaks water for one, and there is a bottom end knock.. That is obviously not a good sign! But i got it for a couple hundred bucks so I am expecting problems, just wasn't expecting that !! I have been given a 97cherokee that has been rolled, totaled, and abandoned by the owner, both are 4.0 but the 97 is 2wd, upon inspecting the 97 underneath is bone dry, not one leak anywhere! Please someone tell me will the 97 engine work fairly easy in the 88???

Can it be done yes, easily probably not, you would have to overcome that they a re two different control systems in the vehicles.
