advice

Hi,
This is my first time writing on this forum. So, I just bought a 1994 Mistubishi 3000GT VR-4, very close to mint condition. It has 109xxx miles on it, and I am wondering if any of you guys can give me some advice on stuff to do, to keep it running well. Any things you guys do to keep yours in good condition??

change your oil every 3000 miles lol

well u proably already know that. Since u past the 100k point u should check ur belts and make sure they are in good condition if not changing them wouldnt hurt. The engine thats in our car are good engines if u keep up good maintence it should go well pass 150k. Pretty much check ur booklet and look at the 60k service manual and see if any of those parts need to be replaced. Oh yea if u havent yet invest around 150-200 dollars on a turbo timer they can really save your turbos inless u like to wait a good 2-3 mins everytime u drive your from place to place and wait for the oil to cool.

O yea, one more thing. In the CD changer, which is the stock infinity one i think, i put 2 cd's in there, and hit the cd button on the radio, and it says disk one, but wont play...? anyhelp

also..being only 17, im looking for some good stuff that will last, and suggestions on turbotimers. Ive looked at HKS, and Greddy...any suggestions?

Is it a CD that you burned? Maybe the CD player isn't recognizing the CD if it was burned on a computer, or it may be dirty?
As far as maintenance, since you have over 100,000 on the car, try using a high mileage oil like Valvoline Max Life. Castrol and Quaker also make somethig like this. They contain more additives which will help protect the motor. It is a little more money per quart but worth it!

If you havent yet mobil 1 syntethic is the best. At least i think it is. Now that's alittle expensive. So pick which ever one u like.

i use 20-50 synthetic. change your timing belt and your water pump and get a basic tune up. you should be good then, this is just some advice from somone who was in your exact position just a year and a half ago. buying a used vehicle with high miles, best thing you can do is change the timing belt.

and as far as the turbo timer 1 min is good enough unless your at a track and your racing for half the day then you would need to put it on 3 min

CHECK THE TRANSFER CASE!!! i bought my vr-4 about a month and a half ago. i put in a new transfercase right after i bought it. (damn that "as is" clause) but anyways check to make sure that it is not leaking any oil. thats where mine failed. then after i put in that new one it was leaking oil. there was a problem at mitsubishi about the seals. so i got a free one and i think that one is leaking also.

Then i would throw on a 20-40 dollar open element filter, a proboost mbc ($18), and an aftermarket boost gauge ($25), then gut your precats (if your not concerned about emissions). Practice your launches and you have a 12 second car.

Does anybody have links to how to gut your precats? I want to do it but i dont know how to, and do i have to worry about the O2 sensors?

Try flipping the CDs upside down with label facing down and tell me if it works.

Anyway -

You should go back to the dealership and get them to refund you're money for it (they bill Mitsubishi for recall work). They can verify that your car hasn't had its transfer case replaced before with Mitsubishi if you have your VIN number. Since its not on record there, they should be able to work something out with you.

yes, it finally works, thanks for that tip about flipping the cd..thats wut did it.

No problem, I remember having to figure that out the hard way.
