97 metro died

metro has 140,000 on it driving home got oil light on, lost power car died restarted it made a clunking sound went another 100 yards puttering died. no oil on dipstick didnt look behind me to see if there was any smoke with new battery ignition lights come on but doesnt turn.could it be belt or did i blow it.

Sounds like it's blown. Check the belt tho, you may have gotten lucky. If you run low enough on oil, the lifters won't pump up, and the car will die. You most likely spun a bearing, or fried the rings. If the belt is good, you're gonna need a rebuild.

thank you ill check the belt but my luck would require a rebuilt. is 325 reasonable for labor to have one installed.

325 isn't too bad on labor to have one put in. IF you know what you're doin, you can do it yourself in a weekend.

thank you for your response. ive ordered a engine with 56.000 on it should i replace the belt before installing it.
