i remeber a long time ago when i was reading one of my predsm mags it was like 5.0 or something i dunno some car mag and i read about an intake system like CAI but with a fan installed to creat a constant pressure( kinda like turbos) anyways i was thinking more on this idea and i was wondering what kinda good it might do? not the same one but i was thinking of converting some sort of blower or vacume and running it into my intake or something. i know it sounds stupid but isnt that what tuning is? squeezine HP in whatever way u can?

then patent your final product and sell it on ebay!
yes it will work, but there are a few questions.
1. will it be switchable on/off , or on a, say, dial of some sort?
2. will it be efficient? or will it heat up after a few seconds and be a hot air blower?
3. what else needs to be changed now, as in fuel settings, injector size, etc...?
4. can you fit it in the bay?
just some stuff that comes to my mind... :)

I have heard of something along these lines called like a tornado or something. It's like a metal bar you stick into your intake and it swirls all of the air in a circle, which supposedly increases air flow and makes it move faster. Has anyone heard of this or know if it works.

04-26-2004, 05:58 PM
Yea I have heard of that. It does not work. You can find plenty of place that will say that it's a waste.

shop-vacs are usualy like a 2hp motor i think. you know like the big ones on wheels, wet/dry. not sure how much airflow that would be but i have used one of the heavier duty ones and that is some sucking/blowing power [pun intended]. reminded me of a girl i used to know...

04-26-2004, 07:15 PM
LMAO.. ok with that yea you should get some gain.. possibly. I think my dad has one of those somwhere.
Hey if it works out for you let me know, I might have to try this.

a kid did this in my town... although he used a leaf blower, 450cfm lol!!! well he had it in the passenger seat and ran the tubes out the window and into the bumper, hit full throttle and hit it, yes it worked but as soon as he let off and forgot to shut the blower off bam there went his motor! it was so funny looking some friends and i took pics and put it in the newspaper... RICER OF THE MONTH!!! lmao

isnt this known as the tornado?

ummm and where are the pics???
ashah000
04-26-2004, 08:48 PM
No the tornado does not force air into the car. It just sits in the intake, and it spins in a circle. Pretty much doing nothing.

but what a great idea for an infomercial!!!! $0.07 for some kid to make in china, $39.95 for not 1, but 2 brand new shiny gas saving hp improving unit that not only is shiny and all the other things previously mentioned, but easy to install! gaurenteed not to rust bust crust corode or collect dust for 1 year on the shelf in a box or 5 minutes of operation, whichever comes first... It doesn't matter if you have extra flow pushing on the turbo. The boost is on THE OTHER SIDE. Your 5hp shop vac isn't going to do shit before the turbo. Not to mention that even the smallest turbos outflow a shopvac 100 times over.

Oh golly, I thought he had a turbo. Well, if you do manage to get 2psi of air extra in there, tell us if you feel the power.
By the way, your alternator is going to steal more engine power having to power another accessory.

well thanks for all those that postedit was just an idea...yeah im looking to add hp...but no i dont want to tear everything off my engine besides my drivetrain. and yeah like i said its just an idea i was wondering if it would cause any problems with detonation like turbos do...and if u really wanna get nit picky about it, what do u think a turbo is? just thinking hmm why not add some creative wiring and see what happends? thats why i asked b4 i tried it. well if i think of a creative way to apply it, now that u mentioned some things about dials and such...hehe as for the room ive got plenty. its an NT. but i was also thinking maybe if u combine it with one of those stupid little CO2 kits i saw in import tuner. it would make a really great cold air blower...and definently woudl be switchable...and actually they dont heat the air up to bad...and btw i live in FL so really theres no such thing as CAI. its all warm humid crappy air...

just a thought but if you could hook this shopvac to a 5/8 inch line, then run it to the impeller housing, on a turbo, could you make it spool up faster? make it help push the thing ,right along side the exhaust?

realize this is a poor add on. the amount of work involved compared to the small yield of the power gain and added stress to the alternator make this an idea that may work, but is not a worthwile mod.
