Well since I am almost done with my civic h/b, I thought I start another one. :D Up next, an Aoshima Toyota hilux version 1.

I already sprayed the color. I can't believe how much paint I used for this truck. I actually used the whole bottle, while for a regular car, I only use about a third. I guess it is because I painted all the bed pieces separately. I felt I could not paint it assembled, cause the tailgate would have to be squeezed in. The color is House of Kolor Limetime green pearl. I also want to put graphics on this truck, but I have never done a graphic paint job before. So if it looks crappy, don't mind it. The color for the graphics will be Sherman Williams chameleon (not cheap stuff) shot over a black base coat. I got the idea for the graphics from a dub city 1:64 F150 crew cab. Here is a pic of the truck.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/42491graphic.JPG
I used that picture by re-sizing it and printing it out. I cut away the graphics and drew an outline on the masking.
Here are the pieces sitting in the bin awaiting the clear coat.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/42491hilux03.JPG
A closer shot of the graphics. You can't tell that it's chameleon, but wait till the clear is on. ;)

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/42491hilux04.JPG
For the chassis, I was just going to keep it a gloss black, but I told mysefl if I have enough chameleon without have to mix more, I would spray the chassis too. I guess I had enough. ;)

Let me know what you all think. :)

Ok. Here are some pictures.
I pretty much finished the assembly of the chassis. All that is left is the exhaust tip, and the gas tank.

Right now I am undecided on the wheels. Since I used the C-5's for my civic project, I thought I try using the Fujimi Advan TC II's. the only thing, I wanted a deep offset, so I tried my hand at making a lip on the rims. I just used a strip of styrene. What do you think? Should I use these on the truck?

You don't think they would look a little too big? I'll try and mock them up and see.

EX-R Those rims looks very cool. Nice job on the lip. The graphics look killer on the truck. What maskign tape did you use, and what did you use to trim out the decal so you don't cut down into the green paint?

Thanks. For the masking, I am not sure what it is. I got it from a friend. It is a thin blue vinyl sheet. What I did for the masking. I first layed the masking on the truck. I then used the picture with the graphic cut out. I held the graphic against the mask. I outlined the graphic, then I took the mask off the truck, put it back on the backing, then cut it out with an exacto. After I cut it out, I placed the mask back onto the truck. that was kind of hard. I messed up on the passenger side. the bed graphic is slightly higher than the cab. Oh well live and learn. I could have left it on the truck, but I was scared that I would cut through to the paint, so I took it off instead.

Finally another update. Just about finished, polishing done, all the window trims are done along with the panel lining. I still have to paint the door mirrors, put the steering wheel in, install all the lights and lenses, and put the bed together. I have to paint the underneath of the bed cover first though. I am debating if I should even put the cover on. Can you see any difference in the other hilux trucks being built here? ;)

Thanks for the comments everyone. :) I didn't start a finished thread for my civic yet, cause I am still waiting for Chris's (FOTW) decals. As soon as I get them and put them on, I will take more outdoor shots, and start the thread. :)
does the bed go into multiple poses or just dump mode
Just the dump mode. I didn't want to mess with the bed. I thought about it, but decided not to. I am sure someone can mod the bed to do more poses.
Cool looking. I like the two tone paint. But the bed is kind of out of place.
Not sure what you meant. Did you mean the graphics on the bed is out of place? I know it looks incomplete. Since it was my first time doing a graphic paint job, I didn't want it too complex. The actuall graphic is supposed to wrap around the tailgate, and the bed cover along with the hood was supposed to have graphics also. Maybe the next one I can try something alittle more wild. :)

I kind of ment the bed it self. Like how it is dumping. Just sort of looks out of place to me. But then again it looks like a low rider truck.

:) At least you seen it. Yes the dash is from a 4runner. The kit came with a resin left handdrive dash. I had the dash sitting around for a few years now. I totally forgot I still had it. I figure it would be something different, since there are a few of these hilux trucks being built now. ;)

LOL. Yeah like what jdmhotrod said, that is the one that comes with the kit. Besides, I had a few friends with mini trucks back in the day, and they had those GT type, and MOMO steering wheels. I put the door mirrors on, so hopefully this weekend I can take some outdoor shots.

That's a fine looking build ex-r. Great paint job. I would love to try a two toned 'graphical' paint job sometime. Thanks for your instruction on masking. That will help me for sure.
