I have it on good authority that that V8 concept is still undecided.
However the RB26DETT I feel has come to the end of it's useful life. It's just to damn heavy.

Welcome to AF Gazmo1 !
It's great to have you with us, and please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions :hehe:
After living in Japan for 6 years and seeing many many GT-Rs and reading information about them, I really disagree that RB26DETT should be given a boot. It's the legacy of the GT-R, it's GT-R's heart. If you change this legendary engine then do everyone a favor and rename the car as well, cause a Skyline GT-R with V6 or V8 will be considered "fake," at least by me :)
Can't they reduce the weight of RB26DETT by using some other materials? Like aluminum? They'd have to modify the engine a little, but why would that matter?

I gotta agree with you man, they really do need to change the weight of the GTR's and downsize it a little bit. I would like to have a lighter car, with not to many things taken away from the engine. Dumbing down a Skyline is about like.....Ughhhh:smoker2:

I would love an 8 cylinder Skyline but it's to heavy for it to be used. They will probably use a V6. Which is a very good idea. As long as it's a turbo and it's a little lighter. And I disagree with igor about the RB26DETT. It may be one of the best engines in the world but it's already had it's glory for 10 years. Skylines didn't always have the RB26DETT. Plus this is Nissan were talking about. They always have very good engines. :) Who knows we might all get used to the V6 and after 10 years when they want to change it again we will have the same additude about it's death. :(

It's just that they've prolly done just about everything they can to make the RB light. It probably has an aluminum head already, and just about every car uses aluminum pistons. They only thing they could do is use and aluminum block, but that would involve figuring out how to fabricate and bore the aluminum properly. it might not even be possible. The development costs would be obscene, too.
So that's why Nissan is looking to move to another engine, especially one that they are already using in other platforms.

I dont like what you just said about using the same engine as some of their other cars(correct me if i'm wrong)but i think that the skyline should remain with an engine made exclusively for it anything but a V8.
