I just bought a 2000 Pontiac Firebird V6 about 2 months ago and now i'm looking to mod it a little. the main thing i wanna do is make it louder, i mainly want the good muscle car sound, i don't care as much if i get performace but i really want the good sound. I was suggested the best thing to do was to get a Flowmaster American THunder catback system, is this the way to go?

Your Not Gonna Get A Muscle Car Sound From A Sixer You Should Have Saved Up And Got The Ls1

Some one I know has a FlowMaster 80series on his 94 3.4 firebird and it sounds good. Actually it sounds like my stock 97 Trans Am but his pops more when he revs it.

hey aresenik dont listen to z06 he is a :loser:, as many times as hes said it he still doesnt get the fact that not evry1 can afford an 8cylinder. Flowmaster American Thunder Systems sound decent, but dont add much power and while they have a great muscle car sound, BORLA has a better sound and is more effective from a power stand point. MAGNAFLOW also has a good sound and the BEST performance for a sixer. MAGNAFLOW doesnt have the typical muscle car sound you were looking for, but i.m.o it sounds better. But if you want muscle car sound go with BORLA.

Well flowmaster will give me the best sound for my money, my machanic and most of my firends said to go with flowmaster because it sounds really nasty. I know borla would give me a bit better of a sound and give me more power, but adding power is secondary, i mainly want the noise. And Borla is mad expensive because of it's million mile warranty. Also my engine is a 3.8 200hp. V6, and if it will sound like a stock trans am that would be perfect.

what is the difference if i got just the muffler and the two pipes rather than the full cat-back

the full cat back will give you 3 inch pipes for more air and the muffler is just that. and you use the same i think 2 and 1/4 or 1/2 pipe. do a catback for best peformance. i kow everyone cant be like me but they sure can wish!!!!!!

Borla system is kind of funky, they have a restrictor plate in one tailpipe, and a muffler on the other, I dont care for it...
Flowmaster is alright, although the muffler for the firebirds (crossflow) backfires some during deceleration.
Magnaflow is loud, sounds kind of like a boat

Hooker Aerochamber is the best, I would go with P/N 21729, have the muffler guy run 2.5" tailpipes, this muffler would allow you to have dual tailpipes, Like V-8s...muffler only costs $60 from summit, install probably $100 (weld in muffler, run two tailpipes)

Note: I have owned magnaflow and Flowmaster, I have a friend with borla, I currently run a Hooker...
