MBC = Manual boost controller, allows you to tune your bar/psi of boost, you can up it and up the horsepower gains to a reasonable level.
FCD = Fuel Cut Defense, When you up the boost you'll hit a fuel cut, this is a safety measure Toyota installed to prevent overboosting, with an FCD you can either raise or eliminate the fuel cut.
Both of these apply to cars with forced induction, hope that helps...

Actually, I think the easiest to install and use is a MBC. It just consists of a ball and spring valve and a couple of vacuum hoses. You could probably make one for $20, but I just bought one for $45 from www.twosrus.com when I needed one: http://www.twosrus.com/new/Lower_Frames/Products/Fabricated/mbc.htm

An electronic boost controller is more accurate, and can have a boost gauge built in. Also you can change boost whenever you want on the fly in the cabin. Very handy... but it comes at the cost. EBC's cost 8 times as much as MBC and do the same job.

I adjust the knob on the MBC and make a test run. Just pull over and twist the knob a little to change it. Once I'm where I want to be, I tighten the lock nut and it's done. EBC would be good if you wanted to up the boost for certain situations (racing or whatever).
BTW, you can also hook up your MBC so that you can adjust it in the cabin. Some people say that this causes lag, while others say it doesn't. I'm not sure, but I just hooked mine up in the engine bay because I don't need to change it.

The Blitz DSBC is a popular one, just do some research and find out which ones have the options you're interested in.
