I have a 1996 Jetta and I was driving along and sudenly the security alarm went on. It appears to have something to do with a fault in the sunroof but I cant be sure. I was 500 miles from home so I cut the wires to the alarm horn but then the car wouldnt start so I connected the 2 wires together. It got me home but the clock and interior lights dont work as well as other funny things. Dealer wants $600 to look at it. Independent guy took $200 to fix it but didnt.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the security system. Any other ideas. from Alan Young thanks

If you wired the two horn wires together you may have fried the module as that would be a hot to a ground. I didn't think the anti-theft system came out untill '97, maybe you've got a late '96. Anyway, if you can't find the problem you can bypass the system by disconnecting the module (beside the fuse/relay panel) and connecting a jumper wire between pins #5 (red) and Pin #6 (red/black) of the six pin connector to keep the starter functioning.

The anti-theft module should have a 10 pin and 6 pin connector.
