Hey everyone, I have an 88 accord and when i went to start it a few minutes ago, it started, but has a huge skip in it. Not just at idle either, if i give it a little gas the skip is still there. now i had this problem a few weeks ago so i changed the cap, rotor, plugs, and wires, and it went away. So they are new, so im assuming its not them.....but what else could it be? I was thinking that there might be water in the tank, so im getting a can of dry gas now, but could it also be the fuel filter? or maybe the fuel pump  Im not really sure. If anyone knows what might be the problem please reply. Thanks in advance.

A skip sounds bad. Have you inspected your timing belt lately?

is it like it is revving up and down for a few seconds and then will do it over and over? if that is what it is, i just got my car out of the shop for that. you need to check your fuel mapping sensor. my accord started that three weeks ago. i didn't worry about it, but it was more annoying than anything, so i took it to the dealer and that is all it was. So try that and good luck.

The last time what you just described happened on my car it was the EACV or Electronic Air Control Valve. Before you take your car to any dealer you should run a diagnostic code check. This will help you to determine if a dealers service department is just blowing smoke up your a$$. I'm not saying that it wasn't the MAP sensor, but since you didn't discover the problem you have to accept their answer. Sometimes it's the quickest way to get you to stop asking questions.
My EACV was getting stuck. A trick that I learned was to (after disconnecting it) spray it with throttle body cleaner while the ignition was on and the wiring was connected. It worked, and that surging went away. I can only assume that if I hadn't got those codes first I would have been at the dealer paying God knows what for something that didn't need to be fixed.
Corrado824 should get his code readings first. It may turn out to be something all together different. I paid 4 bucks for that can of spray. An EACV cost about 250 bucks new.
Moral -- Get the codes first.

okay, i have to totally agree with dahmin8 right now. you should hook up a computer to your car that can tell you what is wrong with it, or take it to a dealer and pay the 30 bucks it takes to figure out what is wrong with it, (if they will tell you and show you what exactly what is the problem) then fix it yourself or take it to someone you trust and have it fixed. if i hadn't had the connections i had, i would have paid a hell of a lot more. Oh!!!! and a TON of advice for all of you that take your car to the shop, ask for ALL of your old parts back. ANYTHING that they replace, plugs, wiring, part, or belt, WHATEVER, get the old part back!!!! i am in a lawsuit for $2200 right now cause i got screwed over by a mechanic i can prove did me wrong. He replaced my parts with the broken part itself. he cleaned my old parts and put them right back on. JUST ASK FOR YOUR OLD PARTS. i promise you. whether you trust them or not, ASK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Corrado824 you should also check to see if your idle is set to high. This sometimes causes a surge in your motor response.

love_le_E sorry about the statement that I made towards you. It has been corrected and directed towards Corrado824.;)

is the 88 accord injected or carburated ?

these are the trouble codes:

P.S.
Dahmin8 i'm sure that car looks cool but it is already an existing accord. it's the euro accord, and something tells me it's the ATR.
