Problem with 87 1,6 Golf engine:( need help

Ok my friend has a problem with a 87 golf. It like this when the engine is cold and u start it one of the cylinders does not get a sparck..........i know change the sparck plug .....its not that....all work....but one does not work when the engine is cold......when it warms up it start and will work + all the plug are black from the tip what could be the problem.....sry about the bad english.....hipe u can help

I'm only familiar with North American versions. What type of fuel delivey does this car have, carbureted or fuel injection? Does it have electronic ignition with a seperate module on top of the main engine computer (should be under the hood at the base of the windshield, left side)?

its mono and seperate module.....one other thing when the engine is cold and the engine is @ 1000-1900 rpm there is a hissing sound in the engine compartment it sounds like it is comming from the left side of the engine...but when the rpm gos up it goes away....lot of black smoke to when its cold

Check for vacuum leaks at hoses, etc....

hm....

which cylindar isn't firing when it's cold?
have you also checking your distributor... rotor and cap, etc.? how about your wires? also what type of plugs are you using? you should use bosch supers w/ a single tip... they are the best for your motor.

i'm assuming this is a CIS car...
is that cylindar not getting spark... or is it just not combusting? there's a big differance there.

i'm thinking that you're running rich (getting too much fuel) and only when the rpm's are up there's enough air getting in there to balance out the mixture for combustion.

you might want to buy an air/fuel ratio gauge and hook it up to your O2 sensor to see what's going on there.

problem solved it was a vaccum leak and the fuel pump gave to much ......but it running good now....thx anyway
