sup, ya'll. i'm shopping around for a new car for my girlfriend after she totaled her grand am by running into the back of my car at a stop light.
are eclipse pretty reliable? does anything chronicly go out on them?
my mom owned a '90 Tsi turbo and the alternator burnt out like 3-4 times in 6 years. info like this would help. thanks

It depends on what year and what model. The '92-'94s have a stronger drivetrain than the earlier ones. And the 2G's have an issue that come up...mostly in turbo cars...called crank walk. If you want some really good info check out www.dsm.org and www.dsmtalk.com Lots of good info and help there.

the old saying. if you take care of it, it will take care of you applies here.
these cars will last 300,000 miles if you take care of them properly (i.e. adding fluids and other typical mantinence stuff)
but yeah they are great cars. get an eclipse. change the tires and take off the 130mph limiter and your set :)

i have a 1997 eclipse rs and i LOVE driving it...and so far nothing broke or anything on it so i would go with an eclipse and they are easy to get mods for if your into that.

lets see first gens 90-94 burn out the ecu (25-100 bucks from a junkyard) second gen(95-99) has crankwalk which is pretty reare but it sucks bigtime and third gen (2000+) just plain suck. i would say that if you take care of a first gen it will take care of you i dont have much experience with 2nd gen but people seem to like them and the turbos have the same engine as first gen, so they should be good.
BTW if you buy an automatics it will probably need a new tranny lol mitsubishi auto trannys suck
you could buy mine from me :)

Go with the Eclipse if you have the money...Talon If you don't
both are the same car anyways, just preference here on design and name

why does this thread sound so familiar? :screwy:
You can say most cars are reliable as long as you take car of them, but simple answer to your question .......... Yes.

I dont exactly often hear DSM and reliable in the same sentence. I have a ton of friends who have em and have been nothing but headaches, but they love em when they are running.
They are very easy and cheap to make fast, but you know the old saying. When it comes to power, you can only choose three:
Cheap Reliable Fast
And most of they time they are having tranny problems, one had to deal w/ the dreaded crankwalk.

It can be reliable..Taking care of a turbo car is different than taking care of an N/A... Meaning that.... you cant just start up and go without letting it warm up... you can just shut it off when you pull in the driveway... You let your oil changes go inconsistant... and if you dont know what preventative maintainence is.. then its probably not the car for you..
