I heard many bad things from 3000gts, that the engines dont last long, they give you many problems especially the v4 turbos, are they true, please be as unbiased as possible, also if the 93's ar better than the 92 and 91 how come the 91 is faster than both of them and i think even the 94 and 95 (talking about v4 turbo), atleast it says it on car-stats.com

those people simply got diff times on diff runs, or diff drivers. a 91 92 and 93 are all the same speed, it just depends on the driver. not sure about 94 but i know 95 and up all run 13.5 and all 1st gens can run 13.8 at best

oh yeah, i have 148,000 miles on my car, only prob is the synchro's, as long as your taking care of it, it goes forever, so you heard wrong, there's a few people on here with more than 200,000 miles on there car and it still runs strong. just change that oil.

Synchros in your tranny and valve guides leaking oil are the biggest common problems, but that really comes down to maintainence and such, if the car was treated well it will last longer. They aren't amazing on reliability, but they aren't bad either.
People say the 93s are better than earlier first gen models(91-93) because they switched to a 4bolt main rather than the 2bolt main in the 91-92s. It is just better for handling more power. The also upgraded a few of the internals and the trannys as the years progressed. However 91 was by no means faster than any other year.
91-93 all have 300hp
94-99 have 320, this extra 20hp was a result of turning the boost up from 10psi to 12psi from the factory. However this is an extremely easy and basically free process so you can make any first gen just as fast as the 2nds.

I've heard this too. This guy around the corner that owns an audio store, had owned a vr-4, he bought it with only 19,000 miles on it, and around 50k (i believer around 50k) he to replace the engine and tranny, he said he went on to replace the engine once more and the tranny two more times. i've heard other things too. Lol but the same guy now owns a supra tt, and had to have motor rebuilt, eitehr he has really bad luck or beats the shit of his cars, but I dont think he does cause i've seen him drive.
But on the other hand I've seen Dodge stealths, with 198k on them and more :banghead:

That may be true, but I've heard other horror stories about the 300gt

If one looks hard enough, they'll find horror stories about every car ever produced. Its unfortunate, but even the best engineered cars have a lemon every now and then.
The 3000 is as reliable as any other car I've ever owned. In fact, its been more reliable then most.

If he replaced hte tranny each time he probably didn't do his homework..you can get just hte synchros for a few hundred from Kormex rather than spending thousands on a tranny swap. Also the motors are great, you wouldn't have to replace the motor. It sounds like your friend has really bad luck, or misdiagnoses his problems and spends a bit too much to fix them.
It's not like all the synchros out there are timebombs waiting to go...I just meant that it's a common problem in our car...the Achilles' heel. It wont happen on all of them, or even most, it's just the most common repair needed is all. Every car has problems that occur more frequently then others. If you want a car based on reliability get an accord or civic. If you want a sports car then get one, but realize that with more power comes more stuff breaking.
Basically my point is, I have heard horror stories about plenty of cars, subarus, toyotas, hondas, it doesn't matter what company, they all have problems and they all have a few bad cars in the "batch". 3000gts, especially vr4s, are like I said, average reliability, not bad, not great. Hope that helps.
