Hi guys,
My 96 3.6 V-6 runs great and appears to be in excellent condition. But I continue to have a pinging issue even while using premium fuel. This is not noticeable in cooler conditions. I am curious if the EGR valve could be the problem? Let me know any ideas, Mark

egr is very possible, have your emissions ran, if the NOx is above specs, then your egr is bad.

Thanks guys,
I'll have the emissions checked and let you know how it reads. I still suspect the EGR for a couple of reasons. First, I have noticed a slight ticking exhaust sound from the egr valve area. It's not noticeable at idle but cna be heard when the engine is revved up. The ticking would indicate to me a leak in or around the EGR valve which could upset the mixture. Second, mine is the Linear EGR valve (electric not vacuum) and my other car has had numerous sticking issues with it.
I'll keep you posted, Mark

oh yeah, *smacks forhead* totally forgot you had the solenoid actuated EGR valve, ill bet that it is full of carbon chunks. sometimes they hold the valve open so the egr isalways working, or they will get stuck behind it not allowing it to open. id take the egr valve off and check it for carbon, usually the valve is fine just needs the chunks cleared out. id also start the engine with the valve off, youll have a loud exhaust leak obviously, but it will blow any other chunks out of the egr channels so you dont get the egr stuck again.
