1998 Ford Explorer Transmission Problem..

This is more a last ditch hope for other possibilities..

I was leaving work today and put the Explorer in reverse. It went maybe a foot then WHAM. (Felt like I hit something) Now Reverse acts like idle. (meaning nothing happens, only the engine rev's).

Drive acts fine and shifted to at least 3rd gear (as its still in the parking lot, I didn't take it any faster than that).

I am almost positive I know what it is.. But, is there any possibility that my transmission didn't just keel over on me?

This is the same explorer that had idle problems re: my previous post. It has 118k miles on it, and is a 1998.

Thanks for any ideas.

Hmm.. obviously nothing my novice car repair skill can do about that... Assuming that is the problem, what is an average of what I'm looking at to get this fixed?
