Im new to the racing world and have some questions. First i was thinking of getting the 3000GT but i dont know what year. I also wanted to know what part or upgrades i should do to get it running quick since i hear that they are heavy and hard to maintain. What should i do??

Ok, first off yes they weigh about 3800lbs, so they are heavy then most...but they have the power to make it move..As far as hard to maintain...I don't agree with that, expensive would be a better word. I am assuming you are interested in the vr4(twin turbo) There are also the base model and the SL model. These are FWD 222hp DOHC 3.0L N/A engines, except the 97-99Base model had a 161hp SOHC engine.
The vr4 is AWD Twin turbo, 3L DOHC 300hp(91-93)/320hp (94-99) Depending on your income, if you lack the money, you might wish to consider one of the N/A models as they are a bit cheaper to buy/insure/maintain.
That aside, every week someone asks the same questions you just asked, so rather then writing a novel, I will just post the link to a previous thread that answered all the same stuff:

If there are any more questions, feel free to ask...and welcome to AF.

also, to clarify some things that Igovert500 seemed to miss, the base and SL models do not weigh 3800 lbs, just the vr-4, the base curb weight is around 3197 and the SL curb weight is around 3350 (due to features such as leather, sunroof, power seats, 6 cd disk changer, now if your base has some of the SL features, it will get heavier). Also, they only difference b/t the 1st and 2nd gen horsepower (300 to 320) are the boost levels, and you can easily get a 1st gen to run the same boost level as a 2nd gen by just pulling out the restrictive nipple in the boost solenoid, only takes about 10 minutes to do and is free free free.

you mentioned 300 to 320 boost level, that might confuse him.
300 to 320hp. 1st gens have 9psi stock and 2nd gens have 11psi stock

the 99 is the best bodystyle but i think the 93 is more in of a cheaper one to afford the 99 vr4's cost a shit load of money.

youngvr4, I always heard it was 10psi and 12psi respectively.
breaker 99 has better lifters that allow more oil flow in the heads, new body styling and a few other things, but they are rare, expensive, and hard to find, if you can afford one, awesome.
