help
Yesterday my stereo went to a white noise / high screech sound.
This noise does increase with volume control, system turns on and off and cd's do change but the only audio i am getting is noise / high pitched screech
any help before i get to the dealer for the royal wallett squeeze

Does the radio work or is the screech limited to playing CDs? If it's just with CDs, then the CD player is the likely culprit.
Pull the radio from the panel and see if maybe the connector came loose or something. Make sure you know the radio code!
Both the radio and amplifier have their own fuses but that seems unlikely. Anyway, the amp is located in the trunk, under the back seat shelf thing. Might be worth a look. Check those connections as well.
I wouldn't go to the dealer, they'll just swap parts, very expensive parts until they fix it. It would be best to disconnect the connection between the radio and the amp in the trunk and use an oscilloscope to see if you have a decent audio signal from the radio. Maybe one of those independent car audio places can help.
BMW audio parts are plentiful on ebay but you need to know the exact part number to look for since there are many variations.
